M50 Reising

Someone I know is cleaning out some of his NFA stuff and he is giving me first dibs on his M50 Reising. Maybe 10 mags in various capacities and a parts kit as well. He said make him an offer. Now that it's on the table I am hesitant. Also about $6500 is the max I could go which seems a bit light for what he is offering.

Any opinions?

Im sure you look at GB completed auctions, the last M50 I saw ended for north of $6k, I think the last parts kit was north of $1500. The mags always demand big bucks 10 of them would be more than $1k could be pushing $2k these days. Honestly finding the GB ballpark price is way easier than determining a price two friends can agree on. Best of luck and you know were going to want pictures if you get it.

Without specifics about the Reising, we're just guessing. Not all Model 50s are created equal. Military proofed guns, very early guns which still have the correct parts and guns with interesting documented provenances tend to be worth more. Late "Numrich" guns tend to be worth a bit less even though they shoot as well. Guns with Fed Labs cases are worth a whole lot more. Condition of the the parts kit and whether it is generic or it exactly matches the configuration of the gun may affect its value as well. Magazine prices range from $95 for current Keystones to...a lot more

It's not going to transfer overnight . Could you pay for the gun and tax now , then pay for the parts and mags over the next 8 months or so on an agreed payment plan while waiting for the paperwork to clear ?

Chris

Not sure. $6500 is about all I could (or want to) swing. Just so close to being debt free, then this pops up LOL. He has told me the gun is blued and has 12s, 20s and a single 30 round magazine. He also told me to be careful because he would most likely take just about any reasonable offer I had.

The only other thing I know is that he is motivated to sell and he plans to keep his Sten Mk2 as his only NFA.

Your last note says it all. He wants to get rid of it and is looking for a price that doesn't totally cheat him. You max out at $6500 which isn't a horrible deal for him even though he could do better on the open market. The market value depends on what version he has and the condition of it and all the rest. If he is looking to sell it without a lot of hassle and if you are friends or at least friendly then he may well be happy to see you get it and enjoy it for 80-90% of what he could get trying to sell it in pieces to unknown people all over the country and all that that entails.

I'd call him up and say, "Joe, I think that the whole thing is worth $XXXX but the best that I can do is $6500". He may well sell it to you.

$6,500 seems like a reasonable current market value for the Reising with a couple mags. Add another $1,200 for the extra mags and $1,200-$1,500 for the parts kit and you get to $8,900-$9,200 if you're parting it out with $8K being a nice package deal.

That said, I've given some great deals to my friends; It feels good to help them get something they may not otherwise be able to afford or that I think they will enjoy. You will also have a resource that knows the firearm and can hopefully help with any issues or questions you may have over time.

If it is in good condition and your friend has shared there are no current issues, it is more than reasonable to offer the $6,500 as a friends/family price (or even $6K and let him counter to $6,500). You could also ask about making a split payment (50/50 or similar) for the higher amount if you really want it but want to try and keep the expense within your budget.

I would offer the 6500 and tell him honestly it most likely is worth more with all the extras but that is all you have and always wanted a full auto weapon. You have cash on hand and he won't have to hassle with trying to sell it on his own or get less from a dealer that needs to turn a profit on it. The worse he will say is no and actually Huggy has a good back up offer strategy.

I think it really comes down to, do you want it or not? I think you will kick yourself down the road if you pass on it. If it helps, you can look it as an investment you can actually have fun with.

I agree. A friend of mine told me he wanted to sell his MAC's. I told him what I could swing and I told him he could probably get little more if he sold it online. He sold them to me. When it transferred to me, he gave me all the original paperwork. He paid $600.00 EACH for them in the early eighties! FYI, I LOVE my reising. Shoots very well. Magazines are hard to find and expensive.

I would offer $6500 for the package. There is a whole lot of extras you are getting, it sounds like. The owner could say no and then you can say thanks.

OR........

Take cash with you. Cash always talks. When there is a small pile of cash on a table, deals can be had.

  • 6 months later...

A little update.

I offered $6500 for the rifle and 3 mags. He pretty much turned it down without hesitation. Then a few days later asked me again. Same thing. He was hoping for closer to $10k-$12k. I said thanks and have not heard back since then.

His rifle is the civilian version, blued with a leather sling. The parts kit may have been a military one with parkerized parts. He had two 12's, five 20's and one 30 round magazine.

Yeah.. that guy is hoping.. and he will keep on hoping at a price tag of $10k. Even at RIA it wouldn't sell for $10k. Most auctions I see sold for $6500 which equates to $7800 after fees (usually comes with 1 magazine). Plus if he sold through RIA, he would lose approx 20% fee. On GunBroker there's one that I've seen there for a while unsold at around $8k

The magazines he has is worth over $1k on the open market.. probably under $1500. Parts Kit I have no idea of pricing.

I'd just check with him later to see if you sold it. If not then make your offer again.

Mine I paid a bit more than I should, but it was a low serial # in beautiful condition.
