hi, new guy here. couple questions

Recommended Posts

I picked up a semi M60 from Delta (precursor to US Ordnance). it appears unfired, but I plan on changing that.

Wolf is cheaper than I can reload, is it good to go?

What kind of barrel life can I expect? Barrels are pricey and tough to find. Any good leads?

Taking her out for the first time tomorrow. Will let you know how the Wolf does.

Thanks

Chris

Well, My personal experience with steel cased ammo is not really that good . While your gun is not a "really expensive FA" , it is not cheap and replacement barrels are $500 + for an old E1, and the prices go up fast for newer models. Wolf in general is erosive and dirty. You can find brass cased "good" ammo for .40-.45/rd. Take a look at Marksman ammo - they sell reman'd LC fairly cheap and I have had very good luck with it.

"prices go up really fast from there" is an understatement. Just got a quote from Desert Ordnance for a replacement E6 (will fit my E3) for $1650.

Any idea of barrel life? I'm trying to do the math. I reload, but even reloading I am around $0.40 each.

Thanks

Chris

The general consensus is ALWAYS use brass ammo rather than steel cased.

There have been quite a few people who have broken extractors with steel cased ammo resulting in a locked-up gun.

The only way to get it unlocked was to mill the bolt out of the gun....

US ORD barrels( w/Stellite liner) will last a long time >100K if you don't grossly overheat them

Have you ever ran that Marksman ammo out of an M60?

Yes. Seems to run fine. It has not been thousands of rds, but hundreds at least. I pulled down the ammo to look at it and it is loaded with a ball powder, Like WC844, and LC 2017 brass. ( at least what I have) I have a Huge stock pile of surplus ammo, FNM, USGI , Malaysian, SA, Aussie, and got the new reman because it was cheap and sale at the time.
