Shooting Yesterday With The Family....

Recommended Posts

Went out yesterday to a little DNR range in Southern Minnesota with the family. Among shooting lotsa fun stuff we did lots of Thompson mag speed changes and shooting Safety drills for the upcoming TCA SHoot. WOW! IS my family psyched for this!

Even though we've never done one of these and don't know quite what to expect (especially at the NRA range!!) we're willing to give it a try!

Our goal is to finish the course of fire without getting yelled at by the RSO for safety violations!! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

Not that we're unsafe....you can never be too safe! But it never hurts to practice! My family have all shot the Thompson alot AND ARE VERY SAFE, BUT have never shot in any type of competitive setting, OR at an indoor range! (I'll probably tag along with the RSO when each of them shoot, just in case!).

Gun shot great with only one stovepipe in 600 rounds (New Wolf polymer coated ammo) although we have 1000 rounds of S&B and 200 rounds of Winchester that we are bringing to the Shoot, per Tracie's "no Wolf" request.

This will go down as one of our cooler vacations and we're looking forward to meeting a bunch of you folks!!

Eagerly awaiting......... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif

john,... good post....sounds like lots of fun, preparation is always the fun part...and having the family involved makes it that much better....we just had our 4 of July mg shoot and I had 14 family and friends...what a blast especially for the newbies...good luck at the TCA! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

It's not the safety officers that you have to worry about....it's Tracie. He shows a very different side when the firing line is going. Remember this is going to be a indoor shoot, so things may be different. I'm gonna try to shoot this week sometime. If I don't shoot this week, it'll be the show before I fire away, I leave to Bonaire on the 24th and get back on the 31st and leave again on the 2nd! They love me here at work. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

Tracie emphasises that it is not about winning the shoot - but being safe and having fun.

Hell - I couldn't agree more.... but as a retired hockey coach, I always follow the line of "we're here to have fun" with "and winning IS fun!!".

So - I will not be able to be there and kick all of your... I wish, but I am practicing already for next year!

Good luck!

I've done a bit of indoor shooting in the past, and anticipate paper silhouettes (good guy/bad guy targets) of some type. We won't have any problems. My family is safe and have shot a LOT, but are way less familiar with the gun than I am. so I'll be next to them on the line if Tracie will OK that. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif That way I can help them clear a jam or assist with whatever might arise........

Since I'm a newby in the TCA and have never done this shoot, the past won't confuse me!! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif or my family!!

As far as accuracy, they aren't too bad, but are shooting for the fun of the experience only!

Just a note to those who can't bring a gun and would like to shoot mine....I have no problems with that as long as those who shoot use good factory ammo (I'll have 1200 rounds with me and I'm sure my family won't shoot all that up, but if there is a bunch more folks interested, I can pick up more ammo. I have S&B that I bought at Cabelas for about $11 a box of 50, and I can get some more Winchester white box at Wal-mart ($20 + MN tax @6.5%) for 100, if need be....) and my van can haul a lot! Anyone interested, let me know ahead of time, OK?

My gun is an A.O. 1928A1 with a vertical foregrip (not authenic but easier for my kids to shoot) and shoots great (as long as I keep it clean!) http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif

If anyone who shoots my gun will volunteer to help clean it up a bit afterward (maybe just wipe off a couple parts??) I'd appreciate that and will have SOME cleaning supplies and latex gloves, towels, etc. If I have extra, anyone else is welcome to clean their stuff also. It would be nice to find out if the NRA has a Sonic cleaning tank or cleaning facilities that we could all use, but for lack of these, a trash can outside will work just fine for me!!

Really looking forward to this (can ya tell??)

I won't be bringing mine up this time and hoping to shoot a 21 or M1 style.

I just may take you up on your offer and try yours out. Never shot a Thompson other than my own.

I believe Tracie will be bringing some extra ammo as well.

I'll have my 1928 and my M1. I will also bring about 2000 rounds of S&B to play with. And maybe a drum or 2. If someone wants to shoot my guns, bring factory ammo, no reloads, and you can fire one of mine. Or I will sell a box of 50 for something to fire in mine.
