Mp30 9mm bolt

Recommended Posts

My gun is a mp30, but has a mp34 top cover

I found a correct mp30 top cover, but Im told by the seller it wouldnt work with his mp34 bolt.

Is there such a thing as a mp30 9mm parabellum bolt?

Or are they all mp34 bolts?

I grabbed a couple 9mm bolts from apex or numrich. Not sure how to tell a 30 vs 34

Also are the 9mm para, 9mm steyr, 9mm Mauser bolts all different ? Id assume the steyr would need to be heavier. How to tell them apart ?

yes the spares have extractors

I cant find a mp30 bolt. I did find pics. It appears the mp30 bolt has a center slot. Removable firing pin. A mp34 bolt has 2 slots. So they are different

Not sure the they share the same extractor or not.

Only two types of bolts for MP SMGs, long and short. MP34 bolts are common. MP30 bolts are not available. All 9mm types of rounds can be used with either bolt plus the .30 Mauser. MP30 and MP34 bolts share same extractor. Both have identicaL small OD forward end. MP30 has full length slot in top with a slightly less short deep rear end that ramps down into the deeper forward slot. Slot is to accommodate and activate the rear topcover mounted lock for the topcover release latch so it will not open for any reason while firing. MP34 has short rear section and two transverse slots for the topcover mounted bolt lock. MP34 bolt will fit the MP30 but axial slot must be milled on top. MP30 bolt will fit and function in the MP34. Bolt recoil spring guide on MP30 has different shaped "S" curve in it than the guide for the MP34. 9 Para MP34 uses shorter length magwell for specific 9 Para mags. 9 Para will function in longer mags for the 9 Steyr, Mauser and .30 Mauser.
Longer and heavier bolt in the MP30 is for the longer, more powerful 9 Mauser round for which the barrel is chambered. Firing pins are removeable in both types of bolts. A .30 Mauser chambered barrel was also made for the MP30 of which I own and example. MP30s can be fitted with barrels in 9 Para, 9 Steyr, 9 Mauser and .30 Mauser. Magwell is longer variation for the longer 9 steyr and 9 Mauser magazines. Many other differences, but these are the main barrel and bolt differences, etc. FWIW

Thanks bob,

there was a 9mm mp30 bolt on gunboards 11 months ago....doesnt look like it sold either, but the seller hasnt been on gunboards for 10 months...it has the slot on top...from a pic im not sure how id tell if its 9mm para or not. would using a 9mm mauser bolt slow the gun further or make it non functional? wondering if any mp30 bolt comes up if I should grab it ?

my gun comes with a 9mm Mauser barrel...is there any value to it? no idea what the condition is, i just know it was part of the deal...not sure if i should keep it since its possible my gun came in 9mm mauser originally....its a 1934 made austrian version......curious why else the barrel is with the gun.

ive got a spare mp34 bolt. i looked at it and it doesnt seem like it has a removable firing pin....or maybe you have to pull the charging handle to get it out...it looke like the pin was part of the bolt and not like a mp40 style that comes out...the pin looks swagged and is in there solid

Austrian MP30s were manufactured and issued in 9 Mauser. Mp30s in 9 Para and other 9mm types, are later conversions and are reliably functional since the longer magazines for the .30 Mauser will run using 9 Para. If you don't want the .30 Mauser barrel I'll buy it.

All 9 mm calibers for these guns have the same cartridge base dimensions and specifications so will function in any bolt. Extractors and ejectors are the same for both types of guns. 9 Para runs fine in an MP30 using the long MP30 bolt.

Firing pin design is identical between MP30 and 34: heavy cylindrical carrier that nests into bolt. MP30 firing pin is much longer than that of the MP34. Firing pin has larger OD boss on rear end that insets into the larger carrier and is crosspined. Remove the crosspin and the firing pin can be removed.
If you find a correct and complete MP30 bolt, buy it. Many people are seeking them both in the US and in Europe and none are to be found any more in eurpoe that have not been destroyed. One can fo to Germany or Austria apparently and buy undamaged MP30 bolts, but also, apparently no one will export them to the US. There are MP30 bolts available in europe but they have been "demilled" by grinding back the bolt face and extractor. I have used the MP30 bolt bodies with damafed front ends to reconstruct them with new small OD front ends, modifying short firing pins to fit the long bolt and installing replacement extractors.
