M6 Ingram barrels - two piece or one ? Ctx

Recommended Posts

Are Ingram barrels one piece or two ? Have seen pics of barrel extension which screws into receiver which has feed ramp and maybe chamber ? Is the rifled part of barrel pressed into the barrel extension or is it all one piece. Does pressing it in hold while shooting or does it need to be welded ? Can dewat welded chambers be machined out for shooting or do the have to be sleeved ? Last question is anybody making barrels ? I saw Scott Andry lists barrels at his web site but I emailed twice and got no reply. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for all replies ! Rich

M6 barrels are one piece, are alignment indexed to the receiver, and screw into the receiver. The barrels have a long tapered, cone shaped feed ramp that is cut eccentrically to the bore axis with the low side aligned with the axis of the receiver on the bottom for feed. Several of the M6 barrels that I have had in the shop on registered DEWATs had the chamber deepened to prevent firing a live round. The round would just disappear into the deepened chamber when inserted. Other DEWATs have had the breech/feedway welded closed.

The barrels with the deepened chambers can be restored by enlarging the chamber, installing a threaded plug and rechambering to the proper depth. Welded barrels can be saved by removing the weld and restoring the original chamber. Usually the chamber is OK and not damaged from the welding although the breech end of the chamber usually needs careful restoration.

The repro barrels that I have worked with do not have the eccentric tapered, cone shaped feed way cut, so considerable work is required to install the barrel, determine the index location of the low point for the eccentric feed way and then cut the cone and finish chamber.

Repro barrels that I have used have the fins cut, the front sight swell, are correctly threaded and a chamber pilot hole drilled for finish chambering.
