QUOTE
Importation of Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Devices

* LCAFDs are no longer prohibited from importation. However, they are still subject to the provisions of the Arms Export Control Act. Therefore an approved Form 6 import permit is still required.

It is interesting to note, that the three popular Republican speakers at the Rep/Convention, Juliani, Schwartzenyager & McCain, that the Republicans praised, are all anti-gun. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif ...Problems ahead.........jw

Not only that, remember that McCain was the one who held hands with a certain Democrat to limit free speech ie "soft money". Just imagine if McCain had beaten Bush back in 2000. Where might we be now. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif

I don't see how WWII Thompson drums could be imported. Aren't they all lend lease stuff?

I don't believe they can be imported, as Lend Lease items (Including Vehicles, Tanks, Ect) cannot be imported thanks to Klinton. I realize the letter doesn't make mention of Lend Lease Magazines, but that is a seperate law all together, and in no way was connected to the '94 AWB. Those Drums will not be coming back. Not legally anyway. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif

Just a note:

a Curio/Relic FFL allows the licensee to import legal items on a form 6.

I have never done this but I'll try anything once!

Anyone know of any large caches of surplus drums out beyond our borders??? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

If the criterion is that the C&R items cannot have been used by a foreign military, I wonder where that leaves the sh*tload of Thompsons and accessories that were shipped to Russia and never used. Those things were never issued to troops, they just sat there in warehouses throughout the war and are now (apart from whatever rusting may have occurred in storage) as new as the day they were made. I guess it's all in the interpretation of what constitutes "military use". Who makes that call?

It is ironic that we cannot bring home our national treasures. I guess the rationale behind lend lease restriction is so Americans would not be wasting their money on their own stuff. I wonder what made Clinton even think of that. If the government really wanted to save money, they would place a higher priority restricting civilian vendors from charging $50.00 for a screw or $1000 for a commode lid.

Who is going to prove what was used and what was not used? I am going to look further into this and get back to everyone. I am going to start by writing a letter to the BATFE and getting an opinion on the matter. If they clear me, then I guess I need to write to the state department next. Does that sound about right for a start?

Thanks

Jr., it sounds like a plan! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif I hope you are successful in finding the truth. More importantly, I hope it is good new for us. If not, maybe we'll have to start pressuring some politicians to change an outdated law. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif After all, reimportation of anything lent out, returned at a reasonable cost, would not only be good for the shooting community in the United States; it would also be very good for our economy, what with all the buying and selling it would encourage. I believe it would be a boon to commerce and national security as well. With a better armed populace, the terrorists (pumpkins) might start to think twice! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif Regards, Walter

New Yorkistan may suck big time, but I live in The People's Republic of Massachusetts (can you say "Kennedy"?) which has, I believe, some of the most Draconian anti-gun laws in the nation.

Would you believe it, though, we are actually allowed to possess C3 weapons, (with a special permit which is, however, almost impossible to obtain).

Then of course, there's California...
