Savage M1A1 Thompson SN: 815889

Very nice! Does the lower match?

This is a late production run M1A1 so there is no serial # on the lower because the factory stopped stamping serial #s on guns in the final production runs - served no purpose as they often switched lowers during rebuilds.

Nice gun,

It has everything I'd expect to see on a late M1A1 to have, except the no drum boss mag catch.

Beautiful gun for sure! Congrats!

Interesting observation on the sight rivets. I've never seen ones domed and proud like that before either. But being a later production gun, maybe Savage modified/sped up their rivet setting technique(?).

M1A1 rear sights:

One in the 775K range; Flat rivets, "J" marked.

One in the 740K range: Flat rivets, no marking.

Mine is 774K range with flat rivets, unmarked. Where is yours marked?

Just a block style J (No cross T on top) , as viewed from the muzzle, centered, about 1/8" from the front edge of the rear sight.

Would post a photo, but no time right now.

If you can see it from the top, mine is definitely not marked.

By "viewed from the muzzle", I meant that you would view with muzzle down, so the J would appear as a J.

Viewed with the butt on the ground, the J would be upside down.

It may be the lighting but it's interesting that the Dulite finish has a bit of a brown hue to it in some places more than others, especially on that rear sight. The butt plate looks as if it has never been pressed against a shoulder. Excellent example.
