DarinReiss Posted May 6, 2005 Report Share Posted May 6, 2005 I just received this 80% receiver today and it looks NICE. I also received an 80% receiver last week. The one I received last week was sold as a Phillie Ord 80% and it looked exactly as I expected - in the white, rough edges, rough machining, no slot cut for extractor, etc. The one I received today that is pictured below looks MUCH BETTER than I expected. The extractor slot is cut, a few lightning holes were made in the receiver channel. The seller is sure it is a Phillie Ord receiver. I am confused because it is so much more finished than I expected. I wish to send these lowers to T&S Manufacturing in CT to engrave the receiver markings and also heat treat to 40 rockwell as they told me they could provided I can tell them what kind of metal it is. If this nice receiver is not a Phillie, I am afraid to have it heat treated, not knowing what steel it is made of. The nice receiver also has a "R" machined into the bottom of the receiver and it made me think of Richardson, as in Doug Richardson. Could this possibly be one of his receivers? Thanks for your help! Roland, Headless Thompson Gunner Posted May 7, 2005 Report Share Posted May 7, 2005 It is a Richardson Receiver. If you want to get it engraved, have Doug do it. He will only work on his own. gijive Posted May 7, 2005 Report Share Posted May 7, 2005 Yes, that is a Richardson receiver and is better quality than the Philadelphia Ordnance receivers. I appreciate your input! What kind of turnaround does Doug offer for engraving? The pictures I have seen of the engraving that T&S does looks very nice. Roland, Headless Thompson Gunner Posted May 7, 2005 Report Share Posted May 7, 2005 My emails show that I first contaced Doug on Nov. 13, 2003 and got the finished receiver back on Feb 14, 2004. He also added the dummy actuator and pilot. I was lucky as I think he was home for the holidays from Belize, though I don't think Doug does it all himself theses days. Sam at T&S did the engraving and added the actuator and pilot my M1A1 Phil Ord. with the added bonus of a spring in the dummy pilot, nice touch. I received 2 replies for receivers and bought both with the understanding that they both were Phillie Ord receivers. The seller of the Richardson receiver thought it was a Phillie Ord receiver.
