Hi all,

Whats the benefits between trust route for NFA items v. Regular route? I have a couple of Class 3 items on Trust and a couple I did before my trust. I know one on the main benefits was no CLEO sign off. Is a Trust still a good route to go?

Thanks and stay safe,

Kevin

i use a trust to make it easier to pass on to my family members or to borrow/gift guns to my kids as i grow older

so i dont have to get my wife fingerprinted/photo'd im waiting until i finish buying in my 2nd trust to get her into it....when kids turn 21 ill get them on it

Since 41f, there is no CLEO signoff (at least at the federal level). There's a CLEO notification, but thats it. And now, every person who is on the trust must submit fingerprints, photo, and RPQ.

The way I do mine, I submit a form 1 or 4 with my trust and an amendment that removes everybody besides myself from the trust. That allows me to only have to submit my own fingerprints and photo. Once the stamp is approved, I shred that amendment and everybody else is back on the trust.

I prefer it this way, is I gain all the benefits of having a trust. My wife is protected in the event that she needs to have any of my NFA things when I'm not around. God forbid a bad guy brakes into the house and the closest gun to her happens to be a 2-stamp SBR with a suppressor on it and thats what she uses to defend herself. If the guns weren't on a trust where she could possess them without me around, we could be looking at some costly legal bills. The small price of the trust and the extra few pieces of paper I have to print out when I file a form 1 or 4 is worth it to me for the benefits.

Adding someone onto a trust does not require fingerprints and photo. Id the items are in the trust already and you dont add more you can add people without the prints/photo

If you add new items then you would need to include mugshot and prints on everyone in the trust.

Or you start a new trust and do it like im doing it
