I am taking a shot in the dark here - I had an FN D BAR with very similar markings
which was said to be "Armie Luxembourg" - it had the AL and three numbers.

Australian rebuild mark.
A lot of pre-May dealer sample Thompsons were imported by Interarms with the AL marks

No 1928 Thompsons in Luxembourg. Luxembourg army only used the M1A1 and those were not marked AL either
And no overhaul facilities in Luxembourg
Only FN ordered guns were marked AL like the SAFN FAL and FN Highpower FND machine gun
And the SAFN-49. I have one in .30-06.

I have one marked exactly like that (pre-May sample imported by interarms).
Those Thompsons were for foreign contracts, so no US inspector marks.
Savage made Thompsons all have the GEG (George Goll) inspection stamp.

Exactly what I thought. What year did interarms start? This gun has pd markings,so I wonder about yr of import.

Interarms imported a lot of firearms in the 1950's and 1960's. Many went to police agencies.

It also has the Interarms import markings.
