New Book: Browning Automatic Rifle

Recommended Posts

I see a new book is out "Browning Automatic Rifle", by R Conroy. Paperback with 120 pages. It includes coverage of the Ohio Ordnance Works 1918A3 SLR.

I have not seen it yet, any one read it?

This is the first I've heard of it. It's on Amazon for $9.59. Has anyone ever heard of the author? He also has a book on the M240 Machine Gun. My guess is these are meant to be like the Osprey books, but that's only a guess.

Has anyone heard when the sequel to Rock and Hard place will be released?

I heard recently that the author was financing it himself.

BOB CONROY has worked in the firearms industry for over fifteen years as an employee of Ohio Ordnance Works, Inc., where as vice president he handles sales, marketing, and business development.

all you need to know about the OOW BAR is , get rid of that factory lube it freezes at the -20* windchill mark.

The book(let) finally arrived. Out of 93 pages only 23 are devoted to the Browning BAR. WW2 is covered in 2 pages! The first third of the book is a background on Mr Browning and his other designs. The last 27 pages which are printed on gloss paper -all other pages being plain- is devoted to the BAR and other rifles manufactured by the Ohio Ordnance Works.

In the introduction the author does state that this is not a technical history and refers the reader to 'Rock in a Hard Place'. Never a truer word said!!!

AlanD,

Is there any new info on the Colt commercial guns in it , as in the R75's and Monitor's?

Is it worth buying in your opinion and where is it being sold at?

Thank you much,

Darryl

There is about half a page on the Monitors. The only photo is of an R80.

The book is available from Amazon.

To answer your last question, I will be using the book to light my BBQ when the summer comes.

Alan,

Could I trouble you to paste a link to it.

Alan,

OK, I found it, thanks timkel.

I thought this book was the 2nd offering by J. Ballou, it's not?

Since I own several BARs, I'll save your paperback from the fire and

offer you $5.00 for it :-)

From what I'm hearing, Ballou's new book will be out by the end of the year.

I've contacted it's publisher to hopefully get a signed copy of it, if it happens.

Of course, Jim's failing health and lack of finances may further delay it :-(
