huggytree
ran into this one...ive asked for more pics....just looking for anything wrong or right? its on a form 4....to transfer this to my dealer its still 6-8 weeks right? its not 1 year and another year from my dealer to me right? ive done a form 4 long ago (2nd gun i bought)..and i dont remember it taking more than 8 weeks back then ive got a copy of the form 4 and it IS a Erb built gun. serial #s vary, but i see 42 Steyr as many of the parts seller says barrel has good rifling, but not shiny/new....stil waiting for pics of it though before i make an offer Edited November 6, 2017 by huggytree
TomN
I purchased a Erb in October from Florida. It was at my FFL in Houston in 6 days, we did the Form 4 same day it arrived now the year long wait. I believe it was a Form 3 transfer which was done electronically. I was very pleased. huggytree
no extra $200 stamp from a form 4 to a dealer? only my stamp $200 from the dealer to me?
TomN
I only paid for one stamp, the stamp associated with my Form 4.
Petroleum 1
The last F4 transfer I did took 4-5 weeks to my sot and only one stamp. The magazine in the pic is a post war Austrian made. Edited November 6, 2017 by Petroleum
huggytree
have an email in to Charlie Erb to verify its his build and not just a tube he sold....waiting to see what he says if he replies pics arent perfect...but my offer would include a bit for repairs/replacements if needed....i cant really find any negs about erb mp40 builds might toss an offer out there tomorrow if no one comes up with any negative comments based on the pics
83Baron
Generally speaking, Wilson made a nicer finish than Erbs, hence I chose to focus on the Wilsons as far as tubes go. Second, I would ask whether it had recently been refinished since the bluing looks so good. Nice to know the last time it was fired, any wobble in the stock, etc. Confirm no pitting, corrosion, etc. in the bore and barrel. As far as transfers go, Ive done two in October. E-file form 3 from the dealer to my FFL, and each one took about 24-36 hours for approval! So from the time of purchase until my dealer had each gun, we are taking about 7 days total. E-file is the way to go, traditional paper form 3s might take 4-6 weeks to get approved to your dealer. Finally, no stamp from Ffl to Ffl so once your dealer has it you have one $200 stamp for your paper form 4, and those are running about 7 months presently. Just had one come back in just under 7 months from date the $200 was cashed.
huggytree
erb isnt answering his phone...no machine, no voice mail....im wondering if he is gone? he still may respond to my email in a few days...its his tube, but its always possible someone bought the tube and did the work themselves.... going to discuss the gun with the owner tonight on the phone. my understanding is it had original finish, but i will admit most of the pics look like a refinish...im told it has handling marks/scuffs from ww2 on it.... i really need a 10 nice pics...close up, moving slowly around the gun...give me a better idea of its finish...right now it could be pitted everywhere and you couldnt tell from the pics...the gun has been for sale for over a month now, so maybe if i can get the right pics ill own a mp40 tonight..... found a source for mags/loaders/pouches.... junglewalk
The gun looks good to me:> I've had a Erb MP-40 for 25 years, and love it........Make the deal before someone else gets it.
huggytree
guns been for sale since June.....i doubt it sells tomorrow.....ive got some time.... if it had horrible pitting under the bluing you'd never see it from most of the pics....need to see what im buying....been here before and dont want to buy on trust and a blurry 1 megapixel photo when i look above at the pics the bolt looks good, maybe 1 or 2 others....but the rest? the finish could almost be anything..it truly looks worse than a 1 megapixel photo any photo effort would yield a nicer more detailed pic.....if i ever sell one of my guns ill take it to a photo studio and pay $500......guns with 20 awesome photo's always sell quick.....when i see blurry/ low rez photo's i figure its on purpose.....but i should have some nicer ones tomorrow..if not ill move on.. johnsonlmg41
So it's on a form 4 meaning two taxable transfers to you. 400. Neither will be fast. Charlie has never answered his phone even for ATF. Is he gone.....yes effectively from the C3 business..... involuntarily, there are however rumors of him answering the phone recently. Some of his MP-40's are perfect, never heard of one not running well, but I've never personally owned a tube MP40. If it's a tube why would it be pitted? Certainly not from wartime use or storage? How many pitted west hurley's do you see. OK, I've seen one.
huggytree
saying a double stamp ($400) is how i thought it was....that fact is disputed by those above your post....i thought that was the case though...and if its a 2 year wait for this gun 0 chance i will bother.... the seller has said their is very minor pitting around the lower...near the grip panels...not the tube i dont know if anything else is pitted....cant tell from a blurry pic always another gun that will come up....not a rare gun....probably 2-3 listed a month+
83Baron
My mistake, didnt read closer at first. Form 4 from individual seller to your dealer = 1 stamp. E-form 3 from FFL to FFL = no stamp. At least times seem to be improving.
huggytree
0 chance id wait 2 years + for a transfer....let him hold onto the gun for 2 months...yes....1 year....no...who knows what could happen during that time....ive got a local one like that...but thats just 1 transfer.....i figured thats why no one buys form 4 deals...they always seem to sit Edited November 7, 2017 by huggytree
DZelenka
Form 4s from individual to dealer are taking 2 or 3 months. Form 4s from dealer to individuals are 5 or 6 months. From dealers to trusts are still taking a long time.
DZelenka
By the way, my Erb MP40 runs without a hiccup. Very reliable.
huggytree
should have the pics later today...if not ill move on....finding lots of old ones on sturm/subguns that still may be around....doesnt seem like many sell quickly sturm had a neat dewat for $15,000 where the barrel and nut were able to be saved...looked like a real nice gun for someone who wanted the lower end of originality...i would have been all over that gun...sold
