Sling Install

Recommended Posts

I just got a repro MP40 sling from Sarco and cannot figure out for the life of me how it attaches. I looked up and down the ol' internet for a long time and found nothing remotely helpful. I feel like a real nincompoop and maybe I am, but I can use some help from you fellas. I want to leave the front sling mount on the left side and not flip it around. Be that as it may, I just can't figure this puppy out.

Can anybody give me a link to a manual or some step by step pics or something? I really appreciate it.

Danke,

Ron Mills

RT:

Indeed it is, albeit a repro. I finally decided to look at a 98k sling install video and that for some reason that clarified it for me. So it's on the gun. My thanks again to you for your help. Apologies for me being such a Polski. You could depend on me in battle, just don't ask me to work with slings or engines!

No wonder. Bergflak's photos are wrong. The end of the sling with the two holes and button go through the forward sling loop, the one that goes between the barrel and receiver.

Original photo from Reidar's website showing the sling installed both ways in the same shot.

The majority of original photos I have seen clearly showing the sling installation shows the loop going through the front sling loop and the button end on the rear. Such as in the second photo.

Ron,

If you have an interest in MP40s you may want to pick up a copy of The Schmeisser Myth -German Submachine Guns Through Two World Wars by Martin Helebrant from Collector Grade Publications.
