To all those magazine hacks out there.

Just a comparison here showing the soldered witness holes on a 20 round Thompson stick mag (Maguire Era incorrect patent dated)

and a 32 round Sten Gun mag (Stamped 1.C.R.1)

Note an identical version of a 32 round Sten mag that hasn't been soldered.

It's a fair assumption that both these soldered magazines were used in the North African WW2 campaign as the soldered witness holes were engineered in order to keep the sand out the mags which caused jams.

Also note the difference in magazine length of the Lanchester 50 round mag,Sten Gun 32 Round mag,Thompson 30 round mag & the Thompson 20 round mag.

Thanks for reading.

JD.

Your Sten mag should read I.C.R.1 and is Ex Indian and will likely be modified to 15 rounds.

Spot on with the stamp Bobby (see photo) & thanks for the additional info.

I've stripped the mag & there are no signs of capacity restriction modifications.

I really like how the base plate works on a Sten mag base plate by depressing the steel ball to remove it.

No screw driver necessary unlike with a Thompson mag base plate.

Have you come across this kind of modification/repair before (second photo)that I came across on another mag?

Full soldered seem top to bottom front face.

Cheers JD

Does anyone know how they soldered up the holes without getting it all over? If I were to do that I would not have round dots but silver blobs around each hole.

Here you go. Courtesy of an earlier post by member RPBCPS:

Can you post a few photos of the ICR mag as the photo above looks like it shows the brass rod end the Indians fitted . The mag with the solder could be a variation as I think someone on this forum had a similar mag which I queried and then found I had the same mag. Turned out to be genuine but a production variation. The only other mag Ive heard of with such a modification is the 7.65 Tok conversion by the Chinese. I have an original Long Branch Mk2 7.65 Tok gun but it came with a standard mag and Ive never found or seen the correct mag for it so cant really comment.
