Ron A Posted April 17, 2004 Report Share Posted April 17, 2004 The only thing about being this old (69) is that I remember buying my first Thompson in 1955, a spanking new M1A1 thompson Dewat from Golden State Firearms in Pasadana California for $50.00 - they had hundreds in racks to select from. I purchased my first 1921ac from a police dept for trade of 2 AR15's and they threw in a original case and drums. A original C & L numbered drums Remember when NRA members could get a 1911 45 from the DCM for $14.00 and a MI Carbine for $ 16.00. A Springfield was $ 14.00. However, I made $48.00 a week which was good money. Union carpenters wage was $1.25 per hour. My last 21 cost almost $20,000. - some difference. Thanks to this board for the great service that is done for the Thompson collector, and those who want to be thompson collectors. Have a good day! I assume Golden State Arms is long since gone but I would be interested in talking with someone who use to work there regarding serial number ranges of HK41's imported by them in 1965. Interesting they had other irons in the fire such as Thompsons. Since I was still crapping my pants in 1965 I have no knowledge of their business activities. Do have a couple HK Q's though if I can talk to someone from there back then. I'd also be interested to hear any input you have regarding the company. Ron A Posted April 17, 2004 Report Share Posted April 17, 2004 Marks - its funny you mention the HK's - they had racks of guns, as many as 100 thompsons, both in 28 and M1. Racks of HK and cetme rifles. I remember a case with mauser broomhandles in number. It was a hell of a toy shop - but when you only made $48.00 per week most of the items were out of reach. I purchased a mauser broomhandle with a stock holster in 90% finish for $50.00 and they thru in 500 rds of ammo. They had made a purchase from Argentina and had Remington Rolling blocks as well as 1873 Winchester full stock muskets in almost new condition. These were selling for $200. - way over my price range. Besides who wanted a strange looking full stock winchester? I don't know anyone who might know about the HK's - with the execption of Ray Houser who used to own the Pony Express sport shop in Encino California. I moved from Kalifornia many years ago and have not heard from Ray in over 20 years. To the best of my knowledge he was close with the people who ran Golden State. Played a little Call of Duty, went for a drive in the country and called it day. Anyone still playing COD multiplayer? Did see a "ORIGNAL" semi-automatic Thompson. "Not one of those ones they make now with the aluminium receivers. I have had this for years and never shot it. No, that is not a 50 round drum only a 10 round drum." Guy wanted $1250.00 for it and the 10rd drum. "Don't know what they are selling them now for." Oh and 2 30 rd magazines, finish worn for $39.00 each. I may have to alter plans and buy a semi-M1 just to hold until I get my SBR and 27 back from PK. Was sorta thinking I might get me one of those matel toy thingees that are all black in September.
