Bank Robbing on Horses

Recommended Posts

A little interesting thing I found out today- My wife was having her horses shod ( shoes) and I was hanging talking to the Farrier - I joked with him if he ever put a horse shoe on backwards... He said he heard of bank robbers, back in the day, would shoe their horses backwards , put the shoes on backwards so the tracks would look like they were going the other way. Believe it or Not. ?

I guess it wouldn't of worked for Dillinger to drive backwards, would it.

I think most of that is an old wives tales. Folks could track pretty good back then. If the shoe is on backwards, the sand / dirt being moved isn't. Most likely something from hollywood. IMHO.

I have heard of it before. I like the old west stuff, but I just can't remember where I've read it before.

Sandman- I don't think it was to permanently fool anyone as much as it was to buy any little bit of time possible.

Not to mention if you rode into an area with several individual horse tracks, your would have its own distinct signature.

Later (Vietnam) the military had very specific soles on the jungle boots. They changed them to look like worn rubber tires to blend in better with Ho Chi Mihn sandals.

They even made some for SOG that were barefoot.
