Hey Guys,

I was thinking now that I live somewhere that allows NFA items, I would like to file with the ATF to SBR my West Hurley 1927. What parts would I need to do this? Ideally I would like to put on an all new barrel rather than chopping my existing one just so that I can change it back one day if I had to.

Yes, a new barrel is the way to go. Good luck finding one for $125 ! $250-300 seems to be the fee these days.

Do a search on this forum for info on SBR. There are a couple of Smiths here who can re barrel for a reasonable fee. Deer Slayer is one. Chopper-O did mine and I am pleased.

Might as well do the detachable buttstock too. If you haven't already, convert mag catch to accept G.I. magazines

I used Th0mps0nbarrels.com (substitute o for 0). At one time, he would do finned, radiused, or smooth, threaded for Comp or not.

Worked with Deerslayer on the install.

More than happy with how mine came out.

FWIW, YMMV, etc.

Good luck with your project. Timmy.

I got my 10.5 inch barrel from numrich. Deerslayer did my sbr rebuild. Great guy. Also did the easy take down milling and take down stock work. I did the stock refinish and built the uke case.

10.5" is really the way a Thompson handles best and looks right. Peter Koler is right.Dan is the guy and worth the wait.Numrich and KHrshould have produced mag cathes tgat use standard magazines. If your running drums have him install a bolt hold open. Edited by Countryboy77
