MP18 - MP28 Stock Harware Compatibility

Recommended Posts

Thanks for all the replies and input. I just bought a nice MP18 and I’m looking to put together a spare stock to use when shooting so I don’t crack the original stock. I really wish I could find a parts kit since a spare barrel and bolt would be great to gave as well but I’ll start with a stock.

So I can get a reproduction MP18 wood stock and Apex has all the MP28 metal except the triggerguard so that’s why I’m asking. I’m hoping the MP28 metal fits the MP18 wood. I see that the MP28 hinge has a single bolt and ring nut versus the MP18 which has 2 wood screws but I think I can get that to work as long as the hinges are the same length and shape.

Certainly if anyone has a spare MP18 parts kit or any parts, please let me know. I really appreciate the help.

The trigger guard is a different width. The inletting inside is completely different. The hinge width is different and the screws ( 2 internally vs. 1 externally) are different. If you are talking about a stock for a snail drum version, there are other differences externally as well.

Of course then there's the selector cut in the MP28 on both sides.

The good news is it looks like the butt plates may interchange length and width, though the curvature may be slightly different and one is serrated, the other is not. MP18 stocks are pretty robust and while I've seen some chips up on the top, major failures are pretty rare. They're all 100 yrs old and having lasted this long, I doubt the recreational shooter will endanger them? HTH
