Haenelistklasse
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows of an excellent gunsmith in either Wyoming or Arizona that could work on my Hank Williams Jr. MP40. I want to put on a ribbed magwell because it has an incorrect slab side magwell on it. Thanks for any help, Haenelistklasse
Frank Iannamico
It easy to change, just drive out the two pins holding it in place. Use a punch designed for roll pins to avoid damage to the pins.
Black River Militaria CII
Keep in mind that sinc ethe gun has been refinished, swapping magwells will require appropriately rebluing the replacement magwell so hopefully it looks all of a piece with the receiver. DARIVS
Be advised that the hole drilled in one mag well may not be in the same position as another. MP-40's were assembled by hand. The variance can move the mag well forward or rearward enough to cause misfeeds in some cases. You will only be able to detect if there is offset after fitting the new mag well. The holes in these parts were probably drilled in jigs with varying tolerance, with larger variance between different manufacturers. Hopefully things will line up and there will be no problems. Best wishes! Edited October 23, 2019 by DARIVS
TSMGguy
There's the ejector to be considered, too. It might not be as simple as driving out and reusing the original pins. They may not be reusable after removal. I'm thinking job for an expert, someone who can make new pins with their unique hollowed-out heads on both ends. Bergflak has unused, original pins. Or, heck, the present mag well was good enough for Hank Williams, Jr. ....
