28 Parts Kits

Recommended Posts

Guys,

Did anyone lose 2 crates of 1928A1 parts and a crate of XX mags? I was just at Intercontental Airport in Houston and noticed that these 3 crates looked lost so I opened them and lo and behold, 28 parts and XX mags. All NOS straight from Russia according to the crates.

How did these get here? It was my understanding that Lend-Lease Thompson parts and mags were verboten to be reimported. Did things change?

Pics to follow.

Greg

Hardrede, I agree that they are currently illegal. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif However, a more assinine law never existed. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif Let them come home to the nation that made them and the people who want them. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif Who knows, it might even bring the prices on all Thompson parts down a bit. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif Cheers, Walter

Greg!

You guys with the badges find all the cool stuff! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

If it is legal, sure would do a bunch to explain the kits that keep showing up at IMA, OOW, Unique Canes etc. Should be a facinating explaination. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ph34r.gif

You can send the entire shipment to me though, should no one claim it.

But I would like a written statement that I can bypass the Federal Vacation. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif :

colt21a - maybe instead of a board for semi 27's John could suggest a board for useless crap.. then those who want to post photos we have all seen for the last 20 years could be saved the time. It could also be a place for those with their first post who want to know how to make a 27 squirt.

Maybe it's the guys from the UK sneaking them in and selling the parts at the guns shows. You keep the receivers and I'll drive down and take the rest. Or just send me a box and I'll put them away until the next amnesty period comes up.

That's just it... WE don't know.. and neither does an agent of the regulatory agency who oversees these things.

These kits are coming in somehow and are being sold by reputable gunbrokers such as OOW, Omega Weapons, IMA and Unique Canes. I somehow don't think all these Govt. audited and licensed dealers would be blatantly selling "illegally" imported parts. They would have just too much to lose....

I've herad that the importation of machinegun parts and mags is currently illegal (although "accessories" are OK??) and have heard many on these boards talk about why and list names of those they've talked to that corroborate this information.

HOWEVER, http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif

I have yet to see a name or number of legislation or executive order that specifically bans this stuff. It used to be legal to import, but now it isn't. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/dry.gif

So show me the laws?

Anyone?

Bob Landies will not do anything even questionable in his business. I had asked him a couple years ago about importing Thompson items (among others), and he told me he was aware of quite a bit outside the country but that he could not bring it in legally at that time. I am not a legal beagle and have never worked through the issues of importing, let alone ex-military importing, but I am certain that wherever Bob is getting his supplies is TOTALLY legit.

In fact, for all of the current seller, I have to agree with scubadvr. Any profit gained is certainly not worth having your business shut down for a Federal vacation.

Two points here.

I don't think that Ohio Ord-Bob Landies was the importer. I believe they got the kits from another party.

Probably doesn't make much difference legally....

I don't think most of the kits now in the country were imported from russia. The russians sold a ton of stuff to the Hungarians, Bulgarians and Romania quite a few years back. I think the import regs say that it has to have been out of the proscribed country for more than 5 years and it had to be a legal sale before it can be imported. If this is the case then all the kits properly imported should be fine. This doesn't mean to say that stuff coming from russia is fine. As far as I know imports of military stuff from russia is still a no-no.

This is all opinion based on hearsay of course but so is this whole thread. (Other than Tmans original post )

Frank,

I think your scenario is the most plausible explaination for all the Thompson kits currently on the market but why are we not seeing WW2 era drums aswell?

Hell No Lionhart!

You saw the photos! Could you imagine what would happen

if those stocks hit the streets??!!!

Man, ever get clocked in the jaw by a solid piece of Walnut complete with case hardened

WWII steel. Man, I can guarantee $10,000 Dental work!

And those frames! Sh*t! Gangs are just drooling about duck taping those to AK 48 recievers to complete some

of the most devistating assault weapons on the streets! God, with a Springfield pike bayonet crazy-glued and strap-wired to the Flash hider/supressor/compensator/evil barrel shroud/para-military french tickling end cap (NON-ORANGE to boot!) we might as well just give up and call it a day,

all is lost because assualt weapons will be mowing us down everywhere!

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzeeeeeeeeee!

The kits were shipped from a place in the UK.(go figure) Houston was just a waypoint on its journey to Arizona. US Customs called us in to look at them to make sure there were no receivers in the crates. Customs has first crack at any US Munitions List violations. I'm sure that the person on the end will be interviewed.

Sorry, guys. No auction here. The way bill stated that the value was $1 per mag and $40 per parts kit. What a bargain! I told the Customs guy that the shipment was way undervalued so someone will have to pay the extra duties.
