CLASSIC12
One year ago, I saw an ad for a Colt M16 A1, a real graal gun for me. I called the seller and we met quickly. He was a soon to be retired 57 y.o. Lt. Col. in the Swiss army. He likes his toys, he also showed me a Thompson M1, a Sig 551 commando, G18, Norinco 56, all full auto, and a multitude of other stuff. He bought the M16 over 20 years ago, shot it FA a few times at the military range, but hasnt shot it in ages. We haggled a bit, he wanted $ 2500 for it, we settled on $ 2100. I live in Switzerland so prices are different. Some obvious wear on it, but rifing is strong, doesnt seem to have shot tens of thousands of full auto rounds. I havent seen those sights before One broken tooth Inside BCG Hammer

CLASSIC12
Sorry for the lengthy, pic heavy posts, but I thought it might interest some folks here to see some details of this old war horse. I’ve shot it full auto once so far, it ran flawlessly but the barrel heated and took that yellow hue since there’s hardly any finish left on it. I’ll be happy to hear any infos one may have, year of birth (1972?), model number (603?) and any other stuff.

huggytree
How does a us property marked m16 end up in Switzerland ? My govt wants it back What are the laws that allow you to still own FA there? I thought your country was disarming ? Between mags I give my m16 about 5 mins to coolDown Add a modern compensator and the gun will shoot flat. I didnt like mine until I added it. Now it shoots like a 9mm. I can hold it on target for a mag dump vs shooting geese Edited September 19, 2019 by huggytree

Compared to the AK with the plain ol' slant break which was dancing around everywhere. After about 3 or 4 rounds, it was no longer on target. BPinFL
Hello Classic 12:Greetings from Florida, USA.Thanks for sharing these great pics. I hope you don't refinish it, the wear pattern indicates to me that it has been carried and handled quite a bit. Oh, the stories it could tell! The rear sight looks like a 9mm model sight I have seen, but am not sure if it is.Regarding the "few weeks for the transfer", I think our government could learn something from yours. My last transfer took 330 days.Have fun shooting it. BP

We’re not disarming yet, just making new acquisitions of high cap semi auto rifles and pistol a bit more complicated for the moment.

michaelkih
Wow I had no idea you could own full auto in Switzerland, AND shoot it too. Thats awesome! That finish is beautiful too! Enjoy! I have a Colt M16A1 Carbine, but it cost me $23,000. 😖
maxfaxdude
Thanks for sharing that. Are you allowed to have the gun in your possession or does it stay locked up at a range? Where can you shoot it legally in Switzerland?

CLASSIC12
Thanks for sharing that. Are you allowed to have the gun in your possession or does it stay locked up at a range? Where can you shoot it legally in Switzerland? I can keep it at home, locked in a safe with the bolt stored separately. So I can fondle it at will. I have to ask for a permit to shoot it and rent a private range after office hours.
