My partner today asked about the OOC BAR. I told him I could order one in if he wanted...to ..try mine first http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif I said the slow rate is about like the Semi http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif I really like the new blue 1818 ones, but ouch on the nut they want for it.

BTW, one of my faves as well, except for the crappy ending.

bob if you go to the sand pebbles web-site also in the book...steve never wanted to have that ending he said holman was much wiser and could have figured a way out.....w/o having to do the last hold action..........

still a great classic anyhow.........ron

p.s.and on the price,its better then spending about $18,000 for the real full auto..........the last price a guy wanted for a colt 1919.........{and to think i sold mine to birmingham pistol parlor back in the 90's for around 7,000}

and in the movie they used a 1918 marlin-rockwell.......with a2 hider ala/blank adaptor..... adaptor........

BOB i could not pass this one up.................at least tell people for $4,000.00 plus >they are getting something they can shoot and defend with, better then spending $4,000 on a couple colt drum's..wink!!

at least with the 1918 bar, you do get a gun.........

and not another colt acc.

you know with the price of "madness" nowadays"

I thought the ending where Steve yells, "I was home....What the Hell happned...What the Hell happened!" Bang! Was cool. McQueen didn't want to die in films after he became a star in "The Great Escape." He died beautifully in "Hell is For Hereos." Hey, Sinatra bought it at the end of "Von Ryan's Express" and that made the movie.

1919 Colt BAR's seem to be going for $30K today.

I wonder if spent hulls from a Colt are worth more than spent hulls out of a Savage? The money has to be going somewhere? Any thoughts?

Hey, I have a demilled peice of a receiver that probably was made by Colt. I am asking $393 an ounce if you are interested. It retains most of its elemental iron as well as some impurities and carbon, molybdenum, and chromium.  It is VERY VERY VERY RARE and never to be seen again. Ill even add gold inlay to this piece of (s)crap if you are interested for an additional $2K!!! I call it the Midas GRAB Thompson part!!!! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif  http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif  http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

aw com'n boy's "Thompson Greed"

however a thompson and a bar look good together..... and everybody know's the thompson guy needed back-up when he had to load those drum's....wink!!!

it is so sad we really cannot enjoy all these goodies because of price............

we all should have a safe full of bar's and thompson's........ron

Ron,

Most of the cops I know are tighter than the bark on a tree http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

"Four grand for a gun...the wife won't allow" (as she sports 10K worth of rings and a 8k boob job).

Once the BAR starts barking it makes the Thompson look pretty toy like http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif but they each have style of their own.

I was going to purchase one of OOC's SLR's a few weeks ago. They informed me that they only had a few left for sale for spring delivery. (April) The next orders being taken for rifles will be in July...looks like that's when I'll have to buy mine. I don't know the status of the 1918 model though. I was given a price of $2700.00 without the carrying handle or bi pod.

A friend of mine bought his full auto BAR in 1987 for $2400.00 tax stamp included at Prarie Creek Gun Shop in Muncie Indiana..he was recently offered $19,000.00 for the weapon...now that's an investment. (BTW...he refused the offer.)

I used to think it was a waste to pay that much for a semi but now am second guessing as it sure is a beautiful peice and have recently been pondering a purchase.

My dilemma right now would be to decide to purchase an AR-50 or a semi-Bar. But it does not stop there because if I hold the $2700, I could try to save a few grand more and buy another full auto of some kind.

Damn, being poor sucks!!! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif

What would you do?

'The Sand Pebbles' is one of my all time favorites. I liked it so much, when I was a kid I made a 1918 BAR with removable magazines out of wood to have one just like the one in the movie. It also gave me the desire to get a 03 Springfield. The BAR that Ohio Ord is offering is beautiful. I would love to get one, but I will just have to look for now. Man-o-man, I could put a big dent in my mortgage with the price of that rifle.

If you like the sound of the BAR, you gotta watch this movie. Just about everyone is carrying a 1928 (with a hollow compensator) but they are using the sound effects of a BAR on the slow rate. You also need to check out the wood 1919's that turn into maxims when fired. Great film even with it's errors. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I agree with the previous posts `Sand Pebbles` ruined me for life... that and `Combat`... I was watching a rerun of `Combat`last week I had not seen in 40yrs. and it finally dawned on me that I had acquired all the guns they used in that segment...sort of a delayed subliminal effect...I was molded by what I watched as a kid...kinda glad they didn`t use a `tiger` in that one...I couldn`t sneek that by the little woman...my .02,out. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

Ron, you crack me up ;-)

Think it was around then when I first saw it too. A friend of the family had a movie theater in his home and he used to show the same movies that ran in the theaters. He would show war movies for the vets and kids on saturdays and first run films in the evening for the adults. You might have heard of him, his name was Dave Beck, we called him "Uncle Dave".

BETA! wow, that pinched a nerve.

I have a bunch of old beta tapes...wish I had a player that worked!

Yep, Had a Zenith Beta too, top loader. Used to break belts all the time till the head went out. Paid $1000.00 at the Bon, in 1976 dollars!

I have a big stack of gun mags in the basement from the 40's and 50's. Every time I feel a little sad I go down and read them....and zip....back to the good times. Think I'll order this anti-tank gun and two of the thompsons, no make that five springfields, three thompsons and ten Colt ssa's (for twelve bucks each). Oh what fun!
