Mike,

I took these pictures at an Ohio Valley Military Show of Shows in Louisville, Kentucky in 2015. It was first for me; very surprising! Unfortunately, I did not record the asking price.

Enjoy!

I recognize the 2 hp Briggs rope start engine with an oil bath air cleaner.

We grew up with an old Toro that was similar.

That engine dates that mower to the early 50's or so.

Self propelled and verrrrry dangerous, as was all stuff back then

My brother and I still have all our toes though.

We hooked up a Radio Flyer to the thing and made the worlds first front wheel drive wagon! (Not a riding mower though as traction in the grass was terrible!)

Some great stuff here. Pretty resourceful of famous companies to do what they did to keep the doors open. Hammond left their organ factories untouched during WW2 and bought other buildings in Chicago to make guided missile systems, camera shutters, Norden bombsight parts, etc., thus being ready to restart their other biz right away after the war's end. Smart.

Hmm I wonder if the Westinghouse .50 cal machine guns ran cooler than the rest...

WWII jargon ....

"C'mon youse guys! Ice 'em wit da Frigidaire"!

Or ....

"Okay Boyos! Zap dem wit da AC Sparkplug"!

Or

"Put a dime in the Rockola and play the enemy a lullaby"!

And then there must have been similar talk in Korea, with the International Harvester Garands.

Today if WAR we could not make chit. Those days are a bygone era in History. Nice to study and read about.Lucky General Motors and Ford can get you out a car or truck.

And sunbeam...the light at the end of a Cave.
