SAR Show - is there still a Thompson corner?

Recommended Posts

Hello All - I am thinking of getting a table or two and going to the SAR Show.

I have not been there for years and back when I was there the Thompson guys

seemed to all be in the rear corner of what was considered to be the SAR building.

Doug was telling me that Gordon used to get everybody tables together in that one

area.

Here we are years later and Gordon is gone and I was wondering if there was still

the Thompson area and if so i will try to get tables there.

Also, can anyone recommend a decent hotel not too far from the Fairgrounds?

In my previous visits I have stayed at The Legacy Resort at South Mountain

which is really nice, but it is a little bit of a haul from the Fairgrounds.

Thanks in advance

I’ve stayed at the Ballpark Holiday Inn Express with good results and it’s 2.9 miles from the fairgrounds which is nice seeing as I have to drive 7 hours from White Sands NM. It’s in a decent area as well. The address is 620 North 6th Street , Phoenix, Arizona 85004

Yes Bob a few set up in that area still with Thompson items. I ended up going to a three table wall deal with a friend near Sheas area.

Since i am no longer a Thompson player mover and shaker.Just a has been."Had this and that"

bring along a few full auto blank guns you might do well with them. Most at these type of shows like to buy and go home with all. the cheap skate and cut corner ones want to nick every dime and build stuff. Funny they never get around to it JUST TALK!

This will be the 20th year there.Normally a good time is had by all. once you get past the war stories, the drama klub. And who jammed who on the last gun deal ha ha.

some tables are like a ole Ladies sewing club. And other are all business. SHOW ME THE MONEY.....

Hope this won't scare you to not show up.wear a MAGA hat and a Thompson T-shirt. and pass out bubblegum and suckers with the business cards and all should be good.RON

Back awhile my wife and I used to go every December.

We'd hang out with Merle, Doug and his wife, Gordon, Ron Egalka, Jan and Murray Willis (from New Zealand) and Lana and Tino, too

Lots of fun getting dinners with that group, much interesting discussion.....really miss that

If you're going It might be fun to scare up some of the old crew who still travel as well as a few new faces and do that show together?

Yes the old old days over ten years ago it was great.even 15. But as you know many have passed. and also health so many do not attend anymore. I know of at least ten already.Whatever is left we try to do well. Like a old bomber group Who made it across the channel from the last raid.

The years of High Adventure.

Colt Chopper, Jerry, David and myself will be arriving on Thursday. I believe Tino and Lana will be there. So, yes. There will be a few Thompson peeps there.

I do miss Gordon, what a wealth of knowledge. Doug was fun to talk to, and of course our New Zealand friend Murray.

So, we have to meet up somewhere again.

Mike, You guys go early....real early !!! I'm thinking you are talking about TATA , Bob was talking SAR. Acronyms are confusing !! See you on Friday(Somewhere),

Nope, I'm talking about Phoenix show in December. We'll be at the SAR show starting on my birthday, December 5th. You should join the fun.

  • 2 weeks later...

Have found myself twice now checking hotels as well as local RV parks (if we go we'll be in Texas til after Thanksgiving, so can make Phoenix in a couple days in our van.

Have already found a couple nice parks but their rates are not far off the cheaper hotels.

Will see what we decide, but hotels are filling up already.

Anyone know if they allow RV camping on the fairgrounds? I can't find anything about it....

I live in the valley, and I don't remember seeing RV spots at the show. The website should say if they do.

I can help if anyone has questions about the area.

Well, there are a few pay RV parks that are pretty nice looking...but not far off the prices of moderate hotels.

Several parks around the area too that are cheaper but farther away.

Pretty sure we'll be there, just gotta find a place to park the van.

It'd be nice if we were camped somewhere within Lyft range so we wouldn't have to worry about moving the van and parking at the fairgrounds ....that can be a mess.
