What is the lowest price and the high end. I have an opportunity to buy a 1979 produced westy with about 90% of finish and it runs great. To determine the price a friend is going to charge me he wants to know the low end to the upper end price wise. Please help I want to make a deal ASAP before I lose the opportunity. I have been looking to re-acquire a 1928 West Hurley lately and I have noticed that people are trying to get over 10K for them. Problem is - they aren't selling! 9500 is the top end of what the market seems to bear right now. Check out subguns.com and search the NFA for sale list for Thompson and Auto Ordinance. Pretty much all of them sold between $8000 and 9500. The ones over 10K sit. Personally, I would pay $8-9K for a good condition WH 1928 with a L drum and a case and/or a few sticks. Thats just my opinion and what I can afford. I also checked out autoweapons.com and the dude wanted 13.5K for a "new" 1928 WH in the box. Needless to say, he won't be getting my business... I was actually insulted! For those prices, you should be looking at a Savage. No wonder they never sell any guns... I suppose they can wait it out for the sucker with the big wallet. Regardless, let us know some more specifics (how does it shoot, etc). Remember also that these guns more than likely need to be freshened up by a Tommysmith (such as Paul K). If this has not been done and has been sitting for 20+ years without being shot, factor that out of the price too. Chris. Nowadays I see them for around $8500 (legit IMHO) but as high as over 10k. With the way the prices are increasing, you almost have to ask each week in order to keep up with the current prices. I would not spend more than $8K for a WH, but that is just me. If you are looking for a shooter than the important thing is already covered because you stated "and it runs great." Gunner Posted February 19, 2004 Report Share Posted February 19, 2004 In Oct. 03, I paid $7,400 (plus $200 tax) for an earlier vintage WH 28. It had been fired a little, but was still mint. Had a high proportion of GI parts, and a horizontal foregrip. It came with 4 XXX sticks, a 39-rnd drum, corect sling, and a pristine hard case -- either FBI or police style, can't remember which is which. Warned buyer about problems before sale. Sold for $6,000.00. By the time the BATF approval took place it was late April, 2003. Similar guns were selling for $7,000.00 to $7,500.00 by then. Got the price my friend was asking and now he is upset that I din't get him more money. Buyer promised to let me know if he got the WH to run right but never did let me know. Had lots of functioning problems with it (Loose barrel, too long of bolt, rivet gripmount broke, rough feed ramp, etc.). Sent it to PK in Colorado & now it spits lead out with the best of them with NO functioning problems now. Has G.I. parts in it as well as a milled, 1/2" gripmount & Savage M1 bolt in it.
