Mike Hammer
I have a '28 bolt that not only has an 'S" stamping on it, but it also has an 'R' stamping next to the other one. Is it possible that this bolt was worked on by both Savage AND Remington Arms? I thought that these parts didn't get stamped untill they were finished and checked, if so why would one bolt have two seperate makers marks? PK.
If I recall correctly, the “manufacturer” was marked on the back end and the prime subcontractor on the left side near the lock slot. I have seen bolts with multiple marks including letters and symbols on the back end. The most common bolt I have encountered is the “S” on the back and “P” on the side (Savage and Petroleum Heat & Power)
