To my great surprise, after watching endless news stories over the last couple of days, I wasn't attacked by any gun nuts carring Semi-Automatic Assault Style Weapons..........Hell, I didn't even see any gun nuts (or terrorist for that matter) carrying any around. ARE ALL OF YOU GUYS OK? I would sure appreciate any reports of such goings on because I have appointments to keep and I'm still concerned about going out again. I can't understand why the News Media isn't reporting all of the death and destruction that we all know MUST be going on. Also, there is a gun show here in Montgomery this weekend and I would like some advise on how to identify (without doing any racial profileing of course) a terrorist. Should I assume he or she will be the person with armfulls of AK-47 and/or Uzi's? Oh God, now I'm really concerned, if I buy an AK-47 or Uzi will be considered a Terrorist or just a gun nut? I have been trying to contact Eyewitness News and the Buffalo Police Department, Firearms Unit/ gun range. They were using the Thompson to demonstrate the difference between semi-auto fire and automatic fire. Listening to the media, and their prediction of a sky rocketing crime wave, there will most likely be hundreds, if not thousands, all over for me to choose which one I want. A local newscast today mentioned quickly that the AWB had expired and showed pictures of a Tech-9, an semi-auto AK-47 with a folding stock, an a Colt CAR-15. What I couldn't beleive is that they actually said "these guns should not be confused with fully automatic machine guns which require a very extensive background check and can no longer be manufactured for the general public." Y'know, they're gonna' have a pretty hard time pushing another bill through after all this dies down. The've sure lost credability. And Kerry! Man, what a two-faced liar. I told him I knew of some Thompson collectors from outside New York who might be interested in the guns. That was when he seemed to get a little ruffled. He said the local State Attorney told him it was illegal in the whole of the United States for civillians to own mg's or smg's!! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif I then told him that New York, California and a few other states do not allow their residents to own full-auto weapons, but most states do, provided that you can pass a pretty stringent background check. I asked for someone to contact at the PD, but he said he thought one of the officers owned it. I was about to tell him that it was illegal for even a police officer to own such a weapon (as an individual) in NYS, but he was called away on some story. They only have this one Thompson. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif It looked so new in the television story, I had to ask about its condition. He said it was in excellent condition, was registered in 1968, and they have had offers tendered for it before. They are trying to update their arsenal, but would never consider parting with the Thompson. He was a very nice guy, so I told him about this site and gave him my email address, so he could send some pics of the Colt Thompson 1921/1928 Navy overstamp at the Buffalo P.D. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif I won't give his name at this time, because I forgot to ask him for permission to use it. However, he told me that the serial number is 1,744 and that it has been property of the BPD since 1924. There were two other Thompsons in the BPD arsenal. Apparently, some guy named Tom Morris, in Ohio, purchased them. He could not tell me anything else about this gun (#1,744), but has graciously agreed to try to take some pics and to email them to me. I will then forward them to Nick so he can add them to my post, as I'm not sure about the FTP server's intricacies. They had 2 but some time over the years one dissapeared. They plan on using it for a display piece. Over the past several years they have been taking it out for a walk once a year during qualifcatoins. Keep us posted as to your findings, photos would be great if they come.
