Thompson M1928A1 British Markings ?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am looking to buy a M1928A1 with serial 19xxxx. Looking at the pic, there are markings on the receiver, D "arrow" D. Are those british markings? I was not able to find an explanation when googling it.

I must say that I haven't had the gun in my hands yet, so I cannot tell if there is a "tommy gun" marked on the receiver.

Note, ETO sale, all legit, I masked the SN for privacy purpose.

Skennerton gives a little information in his S.A.I.S. No.17 pamphlet (and underappreciated resource) and says the remaining ones were given to the Cambodian military in the 1970s as military aid.

did Interarms sell the D/|\D marked guns during the 1980’s?

Does the S/N on the lower match the upper?

If so, I believe the mag release lever, safety and selector have been changed out. IIRC the mag release should not have a hole, and the safely and selector should be coined.

Not a big deal, but it will affect the value as these are very hard to find, again, assuming I am correct - maybe a RKI can confirm...
