full auto 45
This was posted on the sturm board today. Is it a new low in highs? It's nice, but it's not that nice. Sorry if it's someones here, but it's still a West Hurley. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif West Hurley on Sturm Board
Sig
Didn't Western Firearms recently sell a pair of these WH's NIB for $32K? I know the asking price was $32K and I rather doubt Nick does or did any discounting. michael

full auto 45
That means my 3 digit is worth $16k with my FBI case. WOW! There has to be a sucker with to much money!
philasteen
There was previously a thread on this piece. Note the seller omits any mention of the fact it's a West Hurley gun. I find that intentionally misleading. He also had a M2 .50 for sale but I won't bother inquiring about it based on my perceived dishonesty of his Thompson ad. SecondAmend
AF, Not so sure Hugh Grant would agree. Apparently the price for "Divine" was better. Or maybe it wasn't the price that was better.
junglewalk
http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif That's my Mom, Elizabeth Hurley; of course she is 78 years old, & kicked my butt my first 16 yrs of life.........ha. In Sep of 2003, I we paid $9,500. for a W/Hurley, that was made in 1977. ....I came on here crying about the price, but the great, well informed guys like full/auto45, chopper 45, john,John jr, Walter, etc, put my mind at rest, and assured me it was a "ok" price.........Looking back, I'm of course glad we did it.......Thanks guys.........Bob Hurley (jw)
Roland, Headless Thompson Gunner
As DC Chris recently pointed out he got his slighty used WH 28 for 10K back in the spring. I'm waiting on my WH 28 transfer as well which I too paid 10K for in May. I turned down a NIB from Kathy at Elite Iron for 12k at the time. As happy as I am that my hobby may pay for itself someday I think this site can do a great service by reminding folks of what the "fair" market value should be. I think Elizabeth Hurley will depreciate faster in the current environment then all out Westies.
colt21a
maybe they will hit $25,000.00 and any colt $50,000.00.no matter what shape... then all you will be able to afford is nothing..... since if you sell it after you paid 10 to 12 grand or whatever..you won't be able to afford to replace it.or find another guy willing to pay $25,000.00 when you reallly need to sell it..fuzzy logic! as i'm sure we don't have too many member's here that can afford $50,000.00 for one colt gun...i sure can't afford it anymore...to have one safe queen you can't shoot..or much less handle... however $50,000.00 on maybe ten gun's you can handle and shoot when you want to sounds much more fun. funny thing how that's changed in just ten short year's... blasted away with a mg-42 now the mudder is too ritzy to blast...might as well have a cheeeeep!! replica on the wall now.. yep that's it..........live gun's.."real deal unshootable safe queen's" R.D.U.S.Q.'S i like it.....how many do you own???and whats in the wallet??wink! take care, ron
Paul in PA
Ok, the question begs to be asked. When is a gun too valuable to shoot? I purchased my USGI AO M-1A1 over six years ago and paid $3,000 with the transfer tax. At the time that was the MOST expensive gun I had ever purchased, and still ranks in the top five. I have been lucky with my class 3 pieces, prices have appreciated very nicely and I only own my Thompson now. Sold many to afford a nice house for my family and I don't regret not owning them anymore. I can hear the boos. I shoot it only a few time a year, otherwise it sits in the safe. I often ask myself if I should sell. When does this hobby become a rich man'd game. When is it that the prices become to high to feel right shooting the Thompson. Objects were made to be used, (not obused) if you don't feel you can shot a $12 or $20K Thompson why own it? Be it a West Hurley or Elizabeth Hurley they were made to be enjoyed. colt21a
paul the most expensive class three item was a colt i paid $10,000.00 for.{and fired it many time's}and i also purchased a m-60-e3 n.i.b. that set me back $19,000.00 around 1992,,thee most pricey class three i had ever purchased for {one gun} now i hear all these crazy price's.....let me tell you this the avergage guy ain't shootin his stuff....sure some on the board that bought the one's a few year's back blast away i'm sure...wes hurley's military model's.... let me hear the one's who bought the colt's for $30,000.00 plus chime in............. because even tho they may have a few more buck's now above the so-called above average guy. they don't want to put that spensive $2,000.00 scratch in it.or blow a $1,200.00 barrel out.or mar up the wood...or wear on the top or grip heel.....or comp if ac.model... they are all safe queen's...or R.D.U.S.Q.'S yep not many even shooting the m1-d and m1-c garands anymore... or those vintage original colt 1911 model's...and luger's...now i'm really having a chuckle...and it's not the sugar coated one!! yep all looker's now.....and many year's ago..some had been range blaster's..i remember one guy from n.y.at knob creek....took the 1921ac every year....paid around $2,000.00 for it....when it hit the $15,000.00 resale peak.... it stayed in the safe.SAD!! with the class three madness.it will continue...why should the government ever worry. they are all locked up..oiled down, and wrapped up... we cannot afford to use them..take care, ron p.s. new house is good.in the word's of myron cohen "everybodies gotta be someplace"
Bill in VA
I dunno. For me, cost isn't a consideration in regards to shootability. Unless I knew for a fact that a particularly rare/valuable gun that I owned was indeed unfired, NIB I'd shoot it. If it was unfired/NIB I'd probably sell it to buy one I could feel comfortable shooting. The only guns I own that I don't shoot are the ones that I can't find ammo for (like my Type 14 Nambu.) Even then, I have shot them all at least once.
full auto 45
My Westy was NIB and still had grease in the fins of the barrel when I got it. The guy I got it from liked to had a stroke when I told him I was going to shoot it this week-end. He said,"How can you shoot a gun like that!?" I asked if he wanted to watch? First clip was semi and couple bursts to make sue it all went well. Second 30 rounder was a dump and then the drum came next. The grease was dripping off it when I was done! I see the guy at gun shows now and tell him how many rounds I've put down the barrel and I can see him clinch up as I talk. I told him, "Why own it if you can't shoot it?" I know I paid too much then, but I also got a "C" drum and a "L" drum NIB and a butt load of 20 and 30 round mags.

Sgt
I'm like the rest of you who shoot your's. My Savage is certainly not the rarest in the world, but I wouldn't have it if I couldn't shoot. I also don't ever plan to sell it, so the inflation of these things don't affect me, unless I want another one. I also wanted to thank you guys for encouraging me to buy one some years ago. I've never regretted the purchase.

21 smoker
My thoughts on this...I waited most of my life to own my Thompsons,BARs,mg34,mp40,etc....and worked damn hard for them..to let them age in a safe...N.F.W...They were made to shoot and I`m just the emmagee to do it!...I`m not saying to abuse your firearms...shoot`em,clean`em and maintain`em,even share`em... but most of all...ENJOY`EM!!... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif p.s.
