Gunshow Purchase Yesterday

Recommended Posts

I bought this 28 Thompson at the Crossroads of the West gun show yesterday. I suspect it would have been a lot more expensive if I had found it over in the SAR area. Anyway it's WW II Period Auto Ordinance parts on a Philadelphia Ordinance receiver and I think it will make a nice display piece in my den. I think the stamping on the sling is interesting. I found this box of sub-machine gun blanks from the defunct Stembridge Rental Company. The were the largest suppliers of rental guns to the movie industry for years.

It's a Philadelphia Ordnance display receiver and I'll probably ship it to Bob to get some more machining done as he's now doing the Blish lock slots. The nice thing about this display piece is that I got most of the rest of the internal parts for it. I'll post more pictures when I decide where I'm going to display it.

BTW: Bob does some really nice work.

Well done! My gunshow finds from the Allentown show are a BSA 7.63 Thompson mag and a 3rd model WPS 50 round drum. Has the wrong winding key though. Anyone got an original. They'd like to sell?

no such thing as a dummy tommy. thay are all smart.Ron

Ron, I just did not know if Bob had receivers out before the '86 ban. If you sold a Tommy that you wish you still had, that might constitute a dummy.

Ross

then I guess i sold off 125 dummie's.Ross i still have that 20 year old plus Christmas card you used to send out.{ someplace} in my Thompson paper file's. neat stuff. Ron

I still have a mgc replica with drum and case. { bought it from my old buddy Ron Mill's}I have to get it out everytime the "Sahara d.v.d. is in the machine.

James, Did you buy the display gun already assembled?

I'm curious, how much did you pay for it? I have one that looks a lot like it, I built mine based on a Philly receiver as well.

Yes it was assembled. I'd rather not quote the price in case I decide to sell this on down the line. Whoever put it together did a very good job. I'll probably clean up the wood a bit but that will be it.

I don't have a problem stating how much I have in mine. A tricked out Philly at $600 and a super select hand picked IMA parts kit for $850. Kinda expensive, but looks very realistic.

take care of that one. that was my last one when i owned "The Chicago Typewriter Company" back in Chi-town many moons ago.

a little bit of history there. best regards Ron

Ah Thompson secrets.... What difference does what you paid for it have to do with what you sell it for?

Sounds like he picked it up at a good price.

I was just curious if you could get out of it what you put into it. It's probably like the muscle cars we built when we were kids. Even though you spent countless hours rebuilding your 56 Chevy with premium go fast parts, when it came time to sell, it was still a modified primered 56 Chevy. You got .25 cents on a dollar spent on it.

Makes no difference at all, but what he paid for it is really no one else's business.

Absolutely correct! But that is not what he said... as I pointed out....

Unless you like to build/restore cars don't do it..... It is 99% of the time cheaper to buy your car already done..... I think it works that way for guns much of the time too...
