Are original BAR kits rare because I cannot find any

BAR parts and magazine used to be cheap, until Ohio Ordnance started building their semi-auto version.  

No longer the case. O.O. bought up a lot of the available parts kits and magazines, New owners of his semi-auto BARs also bought mags and kits for spare parts.

Later model A2 kits come up periodically in the $1200+ range.  A2 parts are all available individually.

 

1918 kits and parts not so much.
