L Drum Value

Recommended Posts

Sounds exactly like the one I have. From the information I've found they are in last place in Thompson history. The big money drums are the older models from previous manufacturing plants. If the assault weapon ban holds the price may rise but you are probably looking between $400 and $600 depending how bad the guy wants it. I have seen some insane prices up to and over $1000.00 but have never heard of them actually selling for that. If the AW ban goes away those prices may and should drop. Just my .02

I have owned several WH "L" drums and all of them functioned as well as my Bridgeport "L" drums, it is the WH "C" drums that don't function well and need "tweaking". I would ask $700 for it if it is near mint, you can always lower your price. You might want to wait awhile to list it and ask more for it when the assult weapons & large capacity magazine ban is made perminant, (hate to be negitive, but there are just too many liberal, fascist commies in office right now!) http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/dry.gif

I finally just bought one for $500, mint unused. They are hard to find at that price.

I was expecting to find one for under $600, but I had seen many for $650 - $700 range.

I did buy a drum on ebay last friday. It lasted 4 hours, I did a buy it now for $105!! Then ebay had the audacity to cancel the damn auction - even after the item was sold! I will wait and see if the thing ever shows up - I paypalled right away, should be a record of it now (ebay owns paypal) - though ebay deletes it from "their" database. The seller doesn't contact me - maybe he thinks there is no record. I'll just quit bitching now... I'm WAY off track!

After the ban sunsets the drum will only be worth about $200, but I will pay $250 for it now. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif

I think some guys got the wrong impression, I am not interested in giving this drum to somebody, I am looking for a fair deal for both parties. I sold one a year or so ago for $700.00 and am simply trying to find out if this is still the going price......or if they have gone up. I'm not interested in the all "What if's" my thought is that there is about as much chance of the ban being lifted as there is a man in the moon......That said, if anybody wants it for $650 let me know.....Cox43

Fortunately, the Assault Weapons/ Large Capacity Magazine Ban is scheduled to end...die, in September of this year (2004)! Unless some liberal bastard politician goes out of her/his way to sneak in an amendment (extending the ban) to another necessary piece of legislation, like an appropriations bill for infrastructure maintenance, we should be doing fine by September. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif Of course, we still have about six months to go before we can celebrate. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif I think $600- $700 would be a very good price for the drum you describe. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif Regards, Walter

What is the current LE price from Kahr for a L drum?

I bought my last one in 1991 for $105, new from Numrich/Gunparts. made by Valentine products.

I do wish they would have duplicated the original winder key, instead of comeing up with the new one that indexes on the tit on the rotor.

The drum works fine, as long as the ammo isn't a tad overlength.

I really wish I had stocked up on the $7 original drums from Numrich back in the mid 1970's.....

And I will go out on a limb here and predict the Mag capacity ban will either

be made perminent or be continued in some form of renewal. 6 months away is a long time, this is not a prominent issue right now but wait 4-5 months. The reason this ban will not sunset... there is no UPSIDE for any politician who votes for the production of large capacity magazines once again, (or does not vote to renew ban). These smarmy liberals don't have the balls to have things reverted back to the way they were. They are petrified that the first time a person ever gets killed by a weapon with a large capacity magazine, they will lose the gun hating liberal mass audience that elected them. No, I think it's a pretty safe bet large mags will NEVER be produced or imported here again, so don't giv'im away just yet! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

PhilOhio, well said! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif The only thing I would add is, when I think accountability, I intend to vote any scum politicians out of office, who do not allow this ignoble law to die a dignified death!! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif Regards, Walter

Correct me if I am wrong, but a Colt is valuable, and a 1980s WH is no better than buying a brand new September 2004 production from Kahr Arms for $100, right? I predict the Colts will hold their value, and the WH will be under $200 real soon.

rsilvers -???? where did you get this idea. Don't try to smoke and type at the same time!

You won't see WH's go down in price - the ban has nothing to do with machineguns. As the demand continues all thompsons will climb in price, 21, 28 and WH's. Don't hold your breath if you think the price will go down.

No, I was talking about a WH drum. I said that since it was not an original Colt, it only had value because it was a preban magazine. And hence, when the ban ends, it won't be much more desirable than a new production Kahr arms drum (except the WH will still be more desireable for someone who wants to match their gun's brand name).
