Indianapolis ordnance parts

Recommended Posts

I have occasion to be working on a grease gun that has it's full GI parts, but the owner wanted to use replacement parts to preserve the originals. So he had a bolt and a barrel assembly from Indianapolis ordnance. They didn't work. The gun wouldn't full chamber a round and fire it.

So I spent some time trouble shooting them. The bolt was first. After examination and measuring things I looked at the extractor and discovered it was not properly beveled to ride over the rim of the cartridge. I tried to shape it properly but it yielded unsatisfactory results. So I took it out. The pin holding the extractor in place was extremely tight...but after much effort it was out and a GI extractor installed and the gun ran fine with the gi barrel. The gi bolt is on the right side in the picture..

Then I looked at the barrel. The new barrel wouldn't run..only firing a single chambered round with enough energy to pop the primer. Chamber was very tight. Opened it up and still no go.. had to address the bevel where it Chambers also. I didn't take a picture of this, but at the end of the day it was running. Do if you need these parts and they don't work it should be something that can be fixed.

I had a very similar issue with my M3 and a spare barrel I bought from Jason at indianapolis ordnance. I was using the barrel and trunnion to have an integral suppressor made by Curtis tactical. Once done the gun would only feed a single round. Back and forth with Curtis Tactical three times until I just sent him the gun. Then all was well.

Joe Jones at Curtis can tell you the exact fix, but it had something to do with chamber dimensions, and thread pitch (seating the trunnion into the receiver.

Not sure of the MFG issue, but Jason and his team make good stuff, it's just that the barrel assembly was not quite right. Maybe it's because they deal with Valkyrie stuff which is NOT interchangeable with M3.
