Colt Thompson Crash Course

Recommended Posts

Looking at a Colt Thompson tomorrow. I will probably get about 30 mins to examine it. What should I look for?

So far Model #, serial number, internals, ejector, barrel markings, finish etc. I know this is a tough question and hard to learn in a few days but I thought I would ask. I have read the pages in Franks book on the Colt's. Thanks

Ammo,

It seems that you have already listed the items that should scrutinized carefully. There should be no markings on the barrel, however. If you see a manufacturer's code on the barrel of the gun you are looking at, it is a WWII replacement barrel, not the original Colt barrel.

In addition, the internal parts should be nickel and should also be absent any manufacturers markings.

If possible take it out to shoot it to ensure the barrel is not shot out and the aim is still true. Use semi-auto mode and only about 5-6 rounds of ammo.

Ensure that the barrel is a colt by checking for the narrower fins.

If the finish looks too good it may have been redone.

Checkered safety and selector switches.
