DougStump Posted May 21, 2016 Report Share Posted May 21, 2016 As some of you know, awhile back I came up with a T-handled tool to remove the gas cylinder. The book says to use the op rod, but it's uncomfortable and you tend to add a bending motion instead of a straight on turning force. Besides I hate the idea of using a $100 part as a tool to unscrew another $100 part. I have made a few of these for others and they have said nice things about them. But it's a bit of work to make them. Until now. Two weeks ago I hauled off and bought a 3d printer (Flashforge Creator Pro). I modeled the tool and printed a sample. It looks like a success, depending on how strong & durable the ABS plastic is. I will make up a few this week, but I need some help beta testing them. I will mail one out to the first six Lewis owners that PM me their snail mail address. Use it, see if you like it, and let me know. Definitely let me know if it breaks. Of course we would rather have the tool break then tear up a valuable part. If they are reasonably durable, and if David gives his blessing, I will offer them for the cost to make plus shipping. Actual cost looks like a couple of bucks, I won't be a bit surprised if the padded envelope and postage cost more than the tool. No choice of color! That will depend on what is loaded in the machine at the time. They will fit BSA .303 guns, but they should also fit Savage guns (.303 & .30-06) as well as the Japanese (The trouble is they make such bloody good cameras) guns. Want to try one?
