Ron Mills
I'm almost sorry/embarrassed to ask, but does anybody here have any hands-on with the new AO M1 carbines? I saw a couple reviews that didn't hate 'em and said they work fine, but I thought I'd ask here. They're not priced cheap. I'm just wondering about the quality compared a Plainfield or Iver Johnson (of course those being used). No Universal anything for me I'm trying to stay under $1K for money here. I know pretty much anything Kahr-related is usually not the way to go, but what say ye?Many thanks,Ron
StrangeRanger
Shop around for a GI carbine. "Shooter grade" can easily be had for under your $1K budget and you get a known quality.
Ron Mills
Yep trying to do that. The carbine market seems to have jumped up in money (what gun hasn't); I'm not in any real rush. I'd love to find a GI war baby of course. Thanks for the input.
NFA amnesty
I agree about shopping around for a USGI M1 carbine. If you don't mind an import marked one, should be able to fine one at or below the newly manufactured one or the older civilian made ones. As you indicated in your post, would advise against a Universal. I bet any moderate size town in the US, you should be able to find one for sale, hopefully under 1k. Good luck and have fun with the hunt. Here are some imported M1 carbines from this vendor. I think if you shopped around, you could find a non imported carbine for the price he has listed but if you want one now....... https://www.royaltigerimports.com/product-p/m1car001.htm Edited July 23, 2021 by NFA amnesty
StrangeRanger
This one is not mine. Don't know the seller. Just posting it as an example of what can be had within your price range https://www.armslist.com/posts/12423608/nevada-rifles-for-sale---cmp-boxed-m1-carbine-bavarian-rural-police-w--certificate As always with Armslist caveat emptor
Ron Mills
Thanks troops. I appreciate all the sound advice. Agreed regarding Armslist. Always good to view that site "with a jaundiced eye" as some used to say. I live in Florida, and the Florida Guntrader can be like that. Scammers abound there. At least on that site you can check where the IP address is regarding the seller. On with the hunt...
Dan K
If I were to get a new Carbine I would get one from Inland or Fulton Armory. Or you could get a Fulton receiver and assemble. Inland is an investment cast receiver machined and Fulton is machined from billet. I have ten war time M1s and an Inland M2. Neat little critters, although I like semi better than full in the Carbine platform.

DARIVS
The Kahr M1 carbines do have a good reputation for reliability. I think they are far better made that the Thompson replicas. If you cannot buy a GI M1 Carbine, the Kahr rifle will work just fine. I used to own a GI M1 Carbine years ago, but sold it to raise funds for an MP-40. I really miss it because it was a very fun light rifle, but the cost of .30 cal carbine ammo has me not purchasing another one.
