Looking for neat photo ideas

Recommended Posts

I am a left brain person and therefore not very creative.

I would like to do a neat looking photo of the Thompson to hang in the house but not sure what would look good.

For example, what background/backdrop to use.

Profile, front, angled perspective?

Drum attached or detached, loose ammo?

Although I am not creative I know what looks good and would be interested to see what you have done.

Using google and surprised to find little to no examples.

There are plenty of neat ones with pistols.

If you don't mind posting, I would be interested to see what you have done.

What kind of TSMG do you have? A military gun would have a different story to tell in a photo than a civilian one. Think about a story you want your photo to tell. I think creativity comes from letting yourself find a process. I think you are over thinking this too much, take 5 different photos with your cell phone. See which one you like the best, then work on making that style a professional image.

Keep you our background simple. A few accessories work well but too many and your main subject may get lost.

The background was a big concern but based on your images the background is sort of irrelevant as my eyes are drawn to the Thompson and the background is an afterthought.

Years ago I took some photos with wooden Liquor Crates as a Background, but 35 years ago you could find the at reasonable prices.

Some old Whiskey Bottles and I went to the Bank got about $1000 in 100 Bills, that was Fanned out.

This was before they changed the $100 Bill so they still look like from the 20's/30's

If I was doing today I would use Bulleit Bourbon Bottles,

It had a great Prohibition look on B/W Film

I bet that looked awesome.

Could always get the xrayguns picture of the 1921 or if you want one of yours he will do that as well.

Not sure what you mean.

I like it , my eye is drawn to the actuator. I somehow want to grab it by the ears.

I have to admit though, I have a similar background, and it is perhaps the most complicated layout I have encountered as simple as it may seem.

The Bar just had its 100 birthday in Sep. Its a Marlin Rockwell 9/18. All the Thompson's in the photo, and the Reising Mod 55 are owned by other Forum Members now. The BAR went to a Forum member, and he and I just traded back. One of the Thompson's for the BAR.

Cheers,

Steve

Steve, do you miss any of the Thompson's or Reising's you had gotten rid of? Other then the Marlin Rockwell 1918 BAR that you traded back for.

I am rolling with this one. This Texas girl dressed up as "Elvira" at the Texas Rangers Heritage Museum fund raiser in San Marcus Texas, end of Oct 2018. Weapon is SN# 5979. Owned by former Texas Ranger Captain Thomas R. Hickman, circa 1926. When she asked if she could take her pic with this weapon, I said yes, but be careful it is worth a lot of money. Her response was, "so am I".
