Sudden Death Of Sandy Jones ("OCM") - RIP

Recommended Posts

I am posting this here but would appreciate anyone passing it along to other forums, friends etc.

At 6:45pm this evening I received a phone call from a close friend of Sandy Jones advising me that his wife, Karyn, had apparently discovered him in the basement of their house earlier and unresponsive. He had been working on his "brew."

It now appears that Sandy had a sudden fatal heart attack in all probability.

I don't have to tell anyone the sudden shock of this and how much our friend will be missed. I have no additional information at this point, and I'm sure more will be coming in the next several days. This truly is a sad time for all.....

You can reach me direct at: rypublish@verizon.net and as I receive information, I'll pass it along. I don't get back to this forum everyday so contact me direct if need be.

Sincerely and with sadness,

Larry Wack

FBI ( Retired)

I am very sad to hear this news. I had just been emailing Sandy back and forth over the weekend teasing about CC and over the Olympics. We would email back and forth about John Dillinger and his influence on Indianapolis and our dealings with the history of John Dillinger. This is indeed a shock to all of us in the Thompson and gangster history world. His knowledge of the history of the outlaw world will truly be missed by everyone of us. Rest easy Sandy. You will be deeply missed.

Your friend,

Machinegun Mike

Thats horrible news, but thank you for informing us Larry. I only had the pleasure of knowing Sandy on this board, but he was a gentleman and a great influence. He helped me with many photos of the Lebman 351 so I could work on mine. I loved seeing his projects and creativity. You will be missed my friend.

Prayers to his family and loved ones.

Ron

That’s just devastating news. Sandy was the best. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

As a relative newbie here, and to the Thompson world, I haven't gotten to know him as you all have. But, from the responses and descriptions he certainly was a friend and mentor to many. I am very sorry that he's passed and will keep him and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

Duplicate (edit) It would be nice if someone could find and post a bunch of the pictures of Sandy and his projects here for a tribute. He was a true gentleman.

Good lord...this totally blows my mind, and I am lost for words. I am so shocked and saddened by this; I, too, was just talking to Sandy over the PM function here, and I can't believe that he's gone. :(

He was such a great person, and a wonderful font of knowledge, especially of gangster and public enemy history...I can honestly say that this section of the forum will never be the same again, now that he's gone. If nothing else, it shows that you can't take life for granted, and you should use every opportunity you have to let those who are close to you know that you care...or one day, it will be too late.

There was so much yet to learn from him. :(

Folks,

As soon as I obtained funeral arrangements etc., I'll post them on here (unless someone else obtains them). Like most of you, I'm still reeling from this tragic news.

Sincerely and Saddened,

Larry Wack

Although I never met him personally, I believe this is a photo of Sandy (it was taken from a Facebook page that a friend created for him, but he never used); if it's not Sandy, someone let me know and I'll remove it:

Very sad news, indeed. I also corresponded with Sandy frequently after he joined this Board a few years ago, most recently while trying to track down the history of the Thompson owned by Colt Chopper. We also frequently discussed our mutual friendship with author and crime historian, Bill Helmer, going back many years. His knowledge and enthusiasm for the "Depression Era" gangsters will be sorely missed and cannot be replaced. I tried to encourage him to attend one of the Thompson Shows a few years ago when he was looking at Thompsons, but he never got around to it. Too bad he never attended, he would have enjoyed it.

Sincere condolences to his wife and family.

Difficult to take this in. What an incredibly interesting person. I really enjoyed all the conversations we had with him and the amazing knowledge he passed on. I was going to tell him that I secured a part in the new Bonnie and Clyde film as a G-Man, I was waiting though till I had some photos to show him. I am now dedicating my small role to him. He will be greatly missed.
