gregg877
Hi All, I've just taken delivery of a Reising M50 and am really excited about it. I took it out today to shoot it for the first time and for the most part it ran well, but had a couple of minor issues. When you insert a mag with rounds into the gun and try to charge it, the action bar goes fully to the rear, but the bolt stays closed. With no mag in i can cycle the action and the bolt goes in and out if battery with no problems. If i hold the bolt open and insert a mag, it chambers and runs full or semi auto no problem. I've had it apart and back together and cycles dummy rounds and snap caps no problem. I'm using 2 original 20 rounders and I have some of keystone Joe's 30's and all feed no problem. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. The gun is not a numerich, but an original bearing s/n 1062xx. Thanks, Gregg
jim c 351
Gregg,Please post a pic of your bolt and action bar, specifically the camming slot on each.Advise that you do not do any more shooting until we have a look.Jim C
gregg877
Jim, Thanks for the reply, here are the requested photos. Let me know if you need to see something else or from a different angle. Gregg
jim c 351
Greg,Well I compared your parts to my parts and can't see any significant differences. The front top surface of your action bar cam surface seems a little battered, but that shouldn't cause the problem you describe.Hopefully someone else will come along with a different idea.Sorry I couldn't help.Jim C
emmagee1917
The only way I can see your problem happening is if the action bar disconnects from the bolt . Try charging it with the stock removed and see if anything shows up . Does it do it on safe / semi / full ?Chris
Springman
I just tried to recreate the problem you described, seems like if the bolt and action bar are mating together correctly , then the receiver must be so worn that a mag can push the bolt high enough to make the action bar miss the bolt? Does anybody think thats possible?
jim c 351
Gregg,A long shot, but how about a pic of the top of the mag housing, where the action bar rides and the 2 pins that secure the housing.Jim C
Springman
This was the bolt that was in my Reising when I first bought it, I noticed this chip on the bolt while cleaning, the gun functioned perfectly even with the chipped bolt but I changed it out just because i knew it was a potential accident waiting to happen. I think your bolt and action bar are not the source of your problems.
gregg877
I found the culprit; the rear block that the magwell is pinned to had a broken weld. I welded it back together the other night, but after a couple of bursts it broke again. Does anyone know if the magwell blocks were theeaded in? i can't imagine with the action bar slamming into it a small weld is enough to hold it in place. Springman
Take a few good measurements, remove the block completely, grind off all of the old weld, tig weld the block back in the correct location, and try it again. I am sure it can be fixed.
emmagee1917
Yes , they are threaded about three turns , then about half of the top half of threads are cut away in a front to rear "U" . A very poor design and a definate weak spot .Chris
gregg877
Hey guys, thank you for the multiple replies and info. I took the gun To Dan Cullity restoration in Sandwich Ma, he is very reputable and a skilled craftsman. He re-attached the block and testFired it and was good to go. I picked it up and took it to the range today; 1- 3 round burst and the bolt would not come back with the action bar. I pulled the gun apart and discovered that the rear of the cam slot on the bolt sheared right off. I'll post pictures in a little bit... but I am seriously bummed. gregg877
Here are some pictures... I talked to Joe at Keystone, he said he may have some bolts but was getting ready to head to the creek and to check back. There doesn't seem to be any others original or other wise anywhere right now. My serial number is 106251. skoda
Try to find a shop that can weld and remachine it. At least keep it in oil so you can have it repaired in the future even if you get a bolt from Keystone.
emmagee1917
I think we've had several here that are around that range fail there . I think it might have been a bad batch of bolts .Chris
gregg877
Well... after many trials and tribulations i aquired two bolts, neither of which were complete. One is original and the other appears to be brand new/ new manufacture. I pulled what I needed off of the broken one and made the original complete. It head spaces and cycles dummies out of both original 20 rounders and my keystone christie mags.... hopefully out for a test fire today.
