Spikes Tactical M79 Replica

I had one, I did an article on Spikes' 37mm M79 replica and other articles about loading 37 and 40mm rounds for SAR magazine.

Spike's 37mm launcher is a very close replica of the military M79 40mm Grenade Launcher. The most significate difference is the weight, Spikes' M79 has a steel barrel, "real" M79's have aluminum barrels and are a lot lighter.

The 37mm Spikes M79 clone is not considered a firearm by ATF. Not sure how availability is now, but at one time they were backordered for almost a year.

I didn't realize that Spikes' M79s were still backordered. I had a few problems getting one for the article, back when they first came out the gal there told me I was getting one in the "next" batch, well I must have got bumped off because I didn't get one. Probably as well because, as I recall the first ones made had some issues. So I bit the bullet and bought one on Gun Broker for a premium, I was able to sell it later and recoup most of my money.

I watch the M79 market on GB closely (as I own a couple of them).

In the past year, I've only seen a couple Spikes launchers listed...

WRT NFA vs non-NFA launchers, they each have their own +/-

I think they are fun,,,

I like my Spikes M79 copy. Lots of good ammo out there, and I save wear and tear on my Federal gas guns. Especially like the bird bombs in a 37mm adapter when scaring off cormorants from my fish ponds! Shoot it every New Years eve and 4th of July. Get one if you can find one.
