gunfighter48
I was in the Signal Corp from Mar.1968 to Nov. 1970 and stationed at Ft. Monmouth, NJ. This is my STI Ranger II 1911 and I customized the grips with the Signal Corp emblem. It was fun to do but the wood was very hard. Took about 2.5 hours per panel to grind out the wood to inlay the emblem. I also made the mag holder and it has a stainless belt clip to clip onto the outside of my carry belt. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e11/gunfighter48/RangerII-2-DSC_0007.jpg

dalbert
Thanks for posting the photo. I was an early adopter of STI in 1994, when they were a small outfit off of Highway 183 in Austin, before they moved to Georgetown. My brother and I both bought custom serial numbered 2011's at that time. We shot in a club with Virgil and Sherri Tripp, who were the owners at the time. I had to send mine back to them twice to get it to run right, and after a couple of frustrating months, it was dialed in, and has been flawless ever since. It helped that my usual range officer was one of the gunsmiths at STI, so he saw what it was doing first hand, and fixed it on the second try. We shot at the former Hill Country Rifle Range on Hamilton Pool Road. Good times... David Albertdalbert @sturmgewehr.com

The grips and the SA mag well were my only mods. I did do a little work on the trigger and got it to 4lb pull. All my 1911s have 4lb triggers. STI's have a great reputation for accuracy and reliability. I carried mine for a few years until I started having back problems. Now I carry a Colt LW Commander in 45ACP or a 9mm S&W Shield if my back is really giving me fits. But I'm a 45 guy at heart!!!
