John Thompson's Gravesite

Recommended Posts

About 10 years ago I took this picture.

I was a Guest Speaker and with my Security Clearance was able to bring my Weapons Collection onto The USMA Campus.

One of the other Guest Speakers just happened to have a Thompson from his Collection for a nice Photo Op.

Because of the tight Security here at West Point, I am not sure if anyone else has ever been able to do a Photograph like this, but we were already cleared and had our Weapons Collections there.

Very cool. I have walked the WP cemetery many times. Each year the WP History Department does a live fire demo of historical weapons in the WP Museum collection. Unfortunately beginning this year it was only open to military personnel, no non military, not even family members of personnel stationed at WP. I was hoping to attend the shoot as my son is a LTC at WP but no. My son was not even allowed to take his 2 boys with him to the demo. The boys are very interested in WWII history and were deprived of an educational experience, and so it goes.

@Tiz

Unfortunately I no longer do this informal Q&A at USMA.This venue gave the Cadets a chance to handle Weapons from our Private Collections that they could not handle from the Museum.

We talked about the Development and it use, many people don't realize how bad the US Military was in the late 1930's, Krags were being used for Drills. Trucks with a white Sheet with "Tank" painted on it etc.

We stopped going, not because we were not invited, we stopped because of The NY Governor stance on Gun Control and Socialist CONFISCATION.

As out of State visitors we could not take a chance with valuable antiques Weapon Collection.

The Cadets loose out.

My last one was Oct 2011. I had done them for several years and enjoy the whole experience. Even the ride to that part of NY State was great, leaves changing colors in Autumn.

It was a long day,packing the Firearm Cases into the car like at 4:30am to get there around 8:30am,return home maybe 11pm
