The usual proponents of the AWB are holding a rally to promote renewal of the AWB, I think it is tomorrow. CSPAN will have coverage. We gotta keep the pressure on our reps in Congress!

yep and with a few pen strokes they can take away everything..............or raise the fee's to the thousands...just like when the s.o.t.went from $200.00 to $500.00........maybe a raise to $1,000.00 is coming up.......and i am sure somebody put a bird in somebodies ear about raising the tax stamp to $1,000.00............that would put a crimp in all the rampant sales for awhile.......

State Rep. Tryone Yates, a Cincinnati Democrat, introduced his proposal on Wednesday in Coumbus. State Sen. Eric Fingerhut, a Cleveland Democrat, introduced a similar proposal in December pending in the Senate, said Toby Hoover, executive director of the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence, who attended a news conferance Friday with Yates. Yates and Hoover said the Ohio legislation is needed because it is uncertain whether Congress and the president will extend the ban on semiautomatic assault weapons, including Uzis and AK-47s, scheduled to expire in mid-September. Such weapons could be used to spray gunfire into a crowd, Hoover said. David Crowley, a Democrat on Cincinnati City Council said he plans to introduce a resoulution that would put the city on record supposting bans of the weapons."

The state Reps. said it was just Anti Spam?!?!?! But is it??

 

They proposed in the law that the owner must re-register with the State Police yearly and the cost would be the cost of the back ground check.

 

But they never defined the cost of the check. Does it include the salary and benefits for the office staff to handle the check?

Pardon my ignorance, but does your state have the carry permits? Hope such legislation doesn't trample that license too.

Yes, PA has protection carry permits as well as provisional permits for sporting use. The carry permits are sold in 5 year increments, seeming to go up every 5 years as well. 10 day waiting period even if you already have one and issued through the Sheriff's Dept.

 

However it prohibits one from carrying in Philly. (City of Brotherly Love) Where you need a gun the most!!

Million Mom March = Dozen Dyke Hike. I was in Washington, DC this weekend. C-SPAN announced on Saturday that they would begin coverage of the MMM "Halt the Assault" rally at 11:00 AM on Sunday. Strangely, at 11:00 Sunday there was no C-SPAN coverage or at any time during Sunday. Channel 8, the local 24 hour news channel only mentioned the rally, no live coverage or on-site video during the time I was watching. The local news radio had quotes from rally speakers Jesse Jackson and ex-Montgomery County Maryland chief o' fuzz and Beltway Sniper case do- nothing Charles "two white men in a white van" Moose. Rosie O'Donnell didn't make the rally this year due to difficulties with a dildo that would not hold a charge.

 

Based on the lack of news coverage and low attendance, this MMM was a flop.

Organizers of today's "Million" Mom March were expecting 5,000 people to show up... a figure that is far less than the impressive number suggested by their ambitious-sounding name or the "official" estimate of 750,000 for their first rally several years ago (a number that is widely considered to be drastically inflated).

 

According to news reports, despite the "urgency" of the issue at hand (the renewal of the "assault weapons" ban), and plenty of costly advertising, today's march netted a paltry 2,000 participants, less than half the expected number. This represents a substantial increase compared to last year's 100 - 200 participants, though is reminiscent of the embarrassing low turnout of "about 3" at a recent Florida rally.

 

Though they are completely misguided in their reasoning, and are dead wrong on this issue, the 2,000 who did show up should be applauded for taking an active role in what they believe in, and in the process, exercising the very rights the Second Amendment helps preserve.

 

That said, it is clear that the strong, active support for renewing the ban is just not there. Sure, there is a massive amount of "passive" support (people responding to polls, for instance), but most these people are not taking a personal interest in the issue to the extent of actually working towards securing a renewal of the ban, and are not very likely to consider it a key issue in determining who they will vote for.

 

Stay tuned folks... only about 4 months to go before this worthless piece of legislation is purged from the books. In the meantime, keep up the letters and phone calls... it IS making a difference.
