Brian,

Surely your you jest.If you don't think that is a super deal in the EXTREME you may need to take your temperture real soon. 1/2 price is always a heck of a deal

Just a run of the mill Winchester laying on a table is bringing from $650 to $850. And that's not knowing anything about it. Good job. A M1 carbine will be my next purchase.

Well, first I am going to admit I thought you were talking about an M1 Thompson for 5 grand, now realize it is an M-1 Garand for $500 and I still believe you made a great deal. I would like to stmble upon a nice one with matching internals and excellant barrel and I think I saw one, an H&R for $1200 papered from CMP. I know so little about them regarding important details I was afraid to buy it- figure its not going anywhere fast in the current economy with ones that look a lot like it for half that price.

OFG, I believe Brian is saying he purchased an M1 carbine, and not a Garand. (Unless you know something I don't, GM never produced the M1 Garand...not during WWII or later. Winchester and Springfield built them in WWI, and Springfield, H&R, and IHC during the Korean War.) http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif

Brian, a little more info on your carbine, please...

You said GM. Is it a Saginaw or Inland? Do all the parts match? Straight or pot-belly stock? Rear sight type? Safety type? Bayonet lug? Just wondering how correct/matching it is. If it's all correct it's worth considerably more than the $500 you paid. If it's not all correct, you still weren't taken to the cleaners. In my neck of the woods, a good clean GI carbine will easily bring $500.

I grew up with an M1 Carbine in my cradle, well, almost. I must have been about 12 when my dad bought one for me through the CMP for $20. I sold it when I went to college -- dumbest thing I ever did. Years later I replaced it, at many times what I paid for the original. Now I have two Inlands, one with an M1 stock and one with a folding stock. Just fired the M1A1 last weekend, and they're great shooters. Really seem to fit my body and eyesight, both as a youngster and a middle aged fart.

story gos, the old man(either father or grandfather) passed away and now the "kid"(i got his phone# from the dealer, i'm gonna call him) is selling pops stuff.

the parking is in super shape, i almost have to think it was redone. the stock is in just as good shape with just a few small dinges.

it could'nt have come at a better time, it was getting dangerously close to getting one of kahr's M1's http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif

i had it out this morning, and the old girl shots like a laser beam. i just picked a 50 or so rds from my man. i believe it was pmc stuff. had 2 or 3 ftf's despite a good primer hit. and quite a few delayed fires with enough of a delay i heard the pin hit the primer before going off.

i'm quite pleased with it http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You mean Korea USGI bring back right? That gun is one of the majority of M1's that were reconditioned after WWII to be used in Korea. Nice gun, still the real rare ones have the original two aperture peep which have not been touched by government armories(most were "liberated" by soldiers returning home from WWII).

Oh yeah I almost forgot, unreconditioned M1 carbines (WWII) have a push-button safety and if I remember correctly, no bayo lug. I got one in from a Law enforcement agency a couple three years ago on trade that was all original put it on gunsamerica.com for somewhere around $650, a guy called me and wanted me to check the stake marks for holding the rear sight on so he'd be sure it wasn't a fraud. When he recieved it he was tickled pink. He's who I learned a little bit about M1 carbines from.

The m1 carbine is a great gun as well as a good investment! Have a m1 and a m2 carbine. also have a wh thompson 1928 with all savage nos parts except reciever. this gun runs great, but would rather shoot the m2. has a little more bang! for the buck and parts are a hell of alot cheaper. Im sure you will enjoy your m1 a lot. (a little off topic? who cares!)
