Mgc 1921 Thomposn

Recommended Posts

A freind called me about a week ago all exited telling me he found a 1921 Thompson while working on a renovation. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/woot.gif After a few specific questions I had to break it to him that it was an MGC Thompson. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif Although he located all the major pieces there are a few small parts he is missing. Are parts available for these? He is missing the two screws that attach the upper to the lower, the rear grip screw and the safety lever is broken off. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did he find it in a wall? Makes you wonder how or why it got there.

Actually he found it in pieces under a pile of misc. trash. tools etc. on a work bench. He was convinced it was the real McCoy and after recently being laid off was looking for a quick turn around.

I've never held an MGC so I'm not aware of the type of parts/screws needed. If they are available at the local hardware store so much the better. I'll try Modelguns for the safety switch. He says is kinda rough and needs "re-bluing."

Thanks for all the help

Chuck

This is also a gun where the WH drums can be put to their highest and best use...display. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif And the MGC XX mag fits my real Thompson just fine.

Actually, the hole on the MGC mags is a little off from a real one. An MGC mag goes okay in my real M1928A1 IMA dummy gun with original lower, but you have a devil of a time getting a real mag into an MGC Tommy. The drum does fit just fine, though.

I find all this talk about value of MGCs funny. I live on the West Coast, and there are quite a few of them here. I had such a hard time getting rid of mine (my IMA was all the dummy TSMG I ever needed), I eventually traded it for an airsoft MP-5. People here want them, but nobody will pay more than a couple hundred for one!

Didja ever notice how many old guns are found in the walls of buildings? WTF, there must be some sekrit building code that for every 100 structures, a percentage have to have load-bearing firearms included.

If there are so many, you could probably make a few bucks by buying them cheap and finding good non-KA homes for them...like via E-Bay or here.

I actually don’t live in California, but Washington. It’s almost as bad here with the gun laws, though as you can’t have a real TSMG or a SBR Kahr one either. Keep in mind that while MGCs are relatively common here, it’s not exactly a buyer’s market. Folks just don’t want to pay real money for them. And most sellers just put them on ebay because of that fact. I took my MGC tommy to several shows with a $400.00 price tage and people laughed at me. Probably because most collectors around here already have one, I think. I tried to sell an MGC M-16A1 on ebay (which I couldn’t find a buyer for it either around here) and got permanently removed from ebay for “violations of the weapons policy,†even though the item matched all their regulations to the letter. I did what anyone would do; I got a new account and am fine again (lost over 200 feedbacks, though), but I’d never try to sell a replica gun ever again on ebay. People tell me I’m nuts to have traded my MGC M1921 for an airsoft gun, but I have a lot more fun with the airsoft anyway and now that I scored my IMA M1928A1 I like it better as it uses real mags and it as close to a real TSMG as I’ll ever be able to own here. I no longer own anything made by MGC and don't consider myself at any loss.

You need to move to the free state of Kansas. No full auto, no CCW, and no model guns. Apparently airsoft is ok, because it shoots a projectile so it is not a model gun.

So you can have a realistic looking gun that shoots BB's full auto, but not a realistic looking gun that doesn't shoot anything.

Man, how I wish you were kidding, but I have no problem accepting that you aren’t. I’d never heard of that law, and had no idea that any state had gone that far yet!

Sadly it is no joke. I have no idea when this became law. I noticed an ad from Sarco saying they wouldn't ship dummy guns to California etc. then I saw Kansas on the list.

The local gun show has airsoft tables and there is an airsoft store in Wichita. So it looks like the greater minds of politics has struck again. Next election hopefully the liberal gov will be out and at least we will have a chance to get CCW.......

ETA:

Here is what Sarco has on the sale of dummy guns...

Not for sale to MA, CT, PR, CA, KS, WI, NY, & Canada

model guns = dummy guns (who knows? The lawmakers probably couldn't tell you. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/soapbox.gif )
