Glad I don't live there. They wouldn't get my guns without bloodshed. That is a frighteningly serious matter. It amazes me how the constitution can be so easily trampled. Very sad state of affairs when a people disobey their own charter.

The Ohio legislator who championed concealed carry in Ohio will be introducing the pre-emption bill mentioned in the NRA news item. It will be designed to prevent any city or municipality from doing what Columbus just did. There has been an "assault weapon" ban in Cleveland for years.

 

There is not one in Akron, where I live. A number of years ago they tried the same thing, and the legislative chamber was filled to overflowing by pro-gun folks at both of the public forums. The politicians gave their little speeches, then let the issue die a quiet death. That's not to say they won't try again, so we will be vigilant. Unfortunately, Summit County (where Akron is located) is one of two counties in Ohio where you cannot find anyone who will sign the CLEO paperwork. Fortunately, there are ways around that....

 

With the attitude in Columbus these days (local politics), even if the pre-emption bill becomes law (state politics), I have mixed feelings about NRA coming there in 2007. The Ohio Gun Collectors Association left Columbus years ago when Columbus enacted very restrictive handgun legislation. The membership doesn't seem too inclined to return unless the legislative situation changes drastically.
