GaryKeim
I have an M16A1 and a couple HK33s (K & SG1). Ive been using 223 Remington (PMC) in both without problem. But Im worried that its not right for the M16A1, as Ive read it should take M193. Can anyone clear up my confusion?
StrangeRanger
M193 is loaded to slightly higher pressures than .223 and more importantly 5.56 chambers have looser neck and throat dimensions. As a result shooting 5.56 ammo in a .223 chamber can lead to dangerously high pressures. AFAIK shooting .223 in a 5.56 chamber is not an issue
TSMGguy
Right. Shooting .223 in a 5.56 chamber is no problem. If a manufacturer has marked a firearm .223, then don't use 5.56, for the reasons stated above. If it's marked 5.56, use either. There's a newer chambering out there, .223 Wylde: https://americanweaponscomponents.com/clearing-the-caliber-confusion-223-wylde-vs-5-56-nato
