Need a part. Don't laugh

Recommended Posts

I am new to the forum. I really like the indeepth knowledge of even the smallest detail of the M1 and 1928.

I have a replica AirSoft 1928 I found at a garage sale. The drum mag release is broken. I have searched all the AirSoft repair web sites but none have the part. It was made of a thin cast aluminum. It broke at the the point just before the pivot point. It looks as if it probably was pushed against the stop to hard when trying to release the mag.

My point on this post is to see if anyone has or knows where I might find an actual or reproduction release. It does not have to be in the best condition. I am assuming an actual lever is iron and not pot aluminum. Thanks for reading this.

If you could post a photo of the broken part, we can evaluate whether a real TSMG part would potentially fit. I'm not familiar with Airsoft TSMG parts, and I expect that the release will be different, but let's see what it looks like.

Dave, thanks for the reply. I am trying to attach some pic so you can get a good look at the broken area and its relation to the full gun. Being a quasi engineer I think a real TSMG part will fit. I know the lever will fit, not sure about the latch and pivot pin. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Note: pic #5 shows what is left of the release at the pivot pin. Please disregard the small holes, I was trying to fit some to it to be able to rotate the spring.

Thanks

Capt C

I used to own a CYMA M1A1, which uses the same lower as the new 1928 airsoft guns. The mag release on these guns is identical to a USGI, with some minor fitting needed.

Any TSMG mag release will work.

The pot metal used on those guns gave me a huge headache.

Good luck rebuilding your airsoft. The guys here will find you a cheap TSMG mag release lever no problem, it is a common part.

If me, I would reach out to someone on the Board that has replaced a West Hurley magazine catch with a GI magazine catch. A West Hurley cast part would most likely be perfect for your needs. And should be very cheap since no one that has replaced one would want it on any Thompson gun. A very interesting subject. Thank you for posting.

Thank you guys for the support and information. I don't know exactly how to reach out to board members. But I would use a West Hurley magazine catch. I have read some "dissertations" on West Hurley parts and how well you guys like them. Lol. I am sure they would work. If anyone has one or a couple I would be interested in purchasing them. I don't know how you guys converse with each other off line. My email is in my member profile I would assume.

Thanks again for your responses. I feel a little more comfortable now that I know others know what I am talking about and some like R67 actually had the same experience. Ppgcowboy mentioned the spring. I suppose I would need to change it also. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope someone has an old part lying in the parts box.

Since this thread title is a little obscure, you may want to start another in this page or on the semi Thompson forum that has a title like WTB West Hurley or GI mag catch

Not an odd question at all. Several of us also have Model Guns and the like. All things Thompsony are welcome here

I would post another topic, just like you did here. Title it: "WTB: Magazine catch lever".

It does not matter if it is west hurley or USGI. Its a 20-30 dollar part either way. They are very common.

I would request a rusted or well-used catch you can scrub then just re-paint. The CYMA tommys had black paint for finish, so I bet you could find a crappy lever for less than 20 bucks. No one would want a pitted lever for their gun to buy as a replacement part.

I am a big fan os using blemished parts for replica builds. Gun-guys don't want them on their 30-40 thousand dollar gun, but they are perfect for a display piece. So many people build display tommys that there is a secondary market for blemished parts.

The people on this board are just the best guys when it comes to finding parts. Good luck.
