My Wh 28

This is a short, not really, story about how I came into my WH 28. In Nov of 2002 I got the bug, again, to look into buying a Thompson. I had checked out prices on these guns in the late '90s and was surprised at how much the price had risen. I did a Yahoo search and found this forum (thanks to Nick and Frank for the forum). After reading many postings I noticed that someone else was in the same boat as me, Chris (30srust). I did a search and saw that Chris had been asking many of the same questions that I had. I took a chance and emailed Chris. Chris not only wrote back but supplied me with a lot of answers, led me to various other websites for parts etc... but most importantly he led me to Elite Firearms who just happened to have two WH 28s pending transfers. I contacted Elite, I drove that poor guy nuts but that is another story, and bought the Thompson. I live several thousand miles from Elite's business so I bought it sight unseen though Chris did check the gun out for me later on. Chris also did another important favor for me and pointed me towards PK for the obvious work that my WH would need. It took several months for the transfer to Elite to be complete and in the meantime I was securing my own Class III dealer as well as buying spare parts from Phil Askew (from these boards) and Frank at FDS. I completed the Form 4 and waited patiently for the gun to arrive at my dealer. Finally, after about 5 months the gun was at my dealer. From the day I put my completed Form 4 in the mail to the day I received it (which was the same day my dealer did) it was only 84 days, I was impressed! I then contacted PK and he agreed to work on my gun, what a polite and professional guy! I sent my gun off to PK, not without a lot of worry and fright that it might not arrive (I probably drove poor PK nuts too). Several months later I had the gun back in hand, it looked great. PK some internal cleaning up as well as making me a grip mount so that I could put on a GI horizontal mount, milling (?) the WH frame to accept a GI stock slide, replacing that awful WH imitation Lyman adjustable sight with a GI protected sight, replacing the actuator, bolt, bushing, pilot, recoil spring, firing pin, blish lock with all GI stuff. He also installed an oiler. Well, it took me several weeks to get to the range (an infant boy keeps me well occupied these days, but that is nooo complaint, he is much more worthy of my attention than any gun) and it shoots great. It had been several years since I had shot a full auto weapon and I don't think anything can compare to that .45 Thompson. Along the path to Thompson bliss I received many answers and assistance from people on this board, such as Catnipman, and so many more. I hardly ever post because my knowledge is so limited but I enjoy the learning experience of watching others. Thanks again to Nick and Frank, Chris, PK, Phil Askew, Catnipman and everyone else who took the time to help me along the way. I am going to try and post a link to pictures of my gun, and thanks to Chris again for his enormous help with that as well!
