New Plainfield M2

I'm still waiting to bring it home, but it's pending, so maybe in early March it'll be MINE!! I got a chance to shoot it at my dealers. I forgot my camera, but here's a couple of it from the original owner.

BTW it's a Plainfield factory M2. It's got a serial number of about 280. Does anyone know how many M2's Plainfield made. Apparently from internet research they made them for about 20 years, as I recall.

I haven't filed a FOIA for it's birth date, but does anyone have any info on serial numbers/dates, etc.

Frank, thanks for the great board, and esp for adding a carbine board!!! Now I can post here and on the Thompson board.

Well I'm apparently unable to make these photos live?

Nice looking gun. I can't wait to get mine as soon as the papers get back.

Maybe Frank will do a book on the carbines next. And it looks like it wasn't a M1 conversion as there is no over stamp with the 2.

Yippie!!!!

Got the call from my SOT, he got the Fm 4 in the mail today, and guess what???? It only took 29 days from cashing the check until it was approved!!!!

Moving to W. VA was the best thing to happen to us.

I'll be shooting some much better pics when I pick it up this weekend.

BTW, did you see that Kahr is making the para-stocks, supposedly USGI? I don't have a price, but I'm thinking about getting one, either from them or Sarco, price dependent.

Mailing mine off today Feb 16th. Mine is off to Chicagoland. Lets see how long it takes. And a buddy of mine is mailing his off today also for his suppressor. Let see which one gets back first. I'm taking both to the Post Office at the same time today. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/hail.gif

Ii got mine back in 47 days. And my buddy is still waiting for his suppressor to come back. My M2 shoots great. Cept the rear sight is loose. Any suggestions?

Adjustable rear sights were staked in place. You can try to tighten it up by taking a punch and re-staking. This deforms the dovetail slightly to crimp it in so the sight can't move. Otherwise you could try some lock-tite under the base and see if that helps.

Took the gun to my local smithy. We set the sites in the exact location of the first marks and tapped it down as you said. Just took a little ping and that was it. Now to play with the sites when we shoot next.

Shot the gun last week-end. Had some problems in F/A. Wouldn't run all the time in F/A. Would do semi ok, but when you flipped the switch, you might get some semi rounds and then some bursts, but never a full dump if you wanted. Any suggestions? This is on a Saginaw.

V188, any pictures of your and how has it ran?

Not sure, but is the disconnector disengaging the sear properly? I've got a bunch of M1's, but no M2's. Good Luck

My Plainfield is running great!!! Never had a snag yet, even with some 30 round mags.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pics yet. Guess i need to pull her out of the safe and take some pics.

Hope you can get yours running right.

These little guns are just a blast!!!!

I`ve had the same problem with my Inland M2,...struggled for a long time to make it reliable,..changed lots of parts,tweaked,conjoled,etc....and finally bit the bullet so to speak and rebarrelled it...that was the cure...it seems that this is a common problem with original M2s...that were shot alot in FA mode and due to a loss of gas pressure from wear and tear this one would not reset the hammer but would strip a live round...they also have a different gas piston than an M1 and sometimes this is overlooked...one thing about dealing with a stubborn malfunction...in the end you have a whole new understanding of the firearm you own... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif
